Argh... Have some issues with Dell warranty and their support. They force me to make ownership transfer, but the problem is I don't know neither order number nor correct info about previous owner that could match "Dell's records"... They even can't phone previous owner to help solve this stupid situation. As the result - they can do nothing, I can do nothing, and my $2.5k Dell workstation can do nothing. So, this is how it's going at the moment...

In a word - terrible. Sorry to hear that. The worst thing is that it would be very hard and very expensive to source the motherboard by yourself.

There are even more than 2 versions with 768SP or 896SP. And it's not an easy task to tell which have 896SP.

Hi, i think the right way is load HP vbios, because when i look on page with benchmark i saw around 10 - 15% higher points.
I am looking for this file. When i found it i will tell you. :)

When I flashed an HP vBIOS to Dell card - the system couldn't be able to start device. And my research shows that, possibly, shader processors are hardware locked.

P.S. You could find it in my vBIOS repo.

Hi, i know, i find vBios on forum with HP laptops.
I think, the SP is locked but, i do not know where is the problem. Did you compare hex Dell vs HP bios?
The big problem could be a temperature, because why did they lock SP.
Maybe you can find, what number Compute Units is. With dell is 12 and original will be 14.
One CU is 64SP :) maybe there is a solution.
Thank you, i would like to find this number but i do not know where is the number in vBios.

Of course I compared. And temperature is not the reason - HP vBIOS have lower voltages. Also, Dell M6100 have different GPU chip number if compared to current HP M6100, but is the same Asus M280x have. Additionally, HP had AMD FirePro W6170M earlier in their Elitebook workstations (it has the same GPU as Dell/Asus). SP limitations for this card have hardware base - not the vBIOS.

P.S. I found the values for SP, but as I mentioned - the Dell card doesn't even pass trough the POST.

I look for unlock m6600 BIOS like enable enduro or overclock CPU, but nobody do that.
I would like to help you with continue in this project. Did you claim your Dell successfully?
    But thank you for support.

Enduro is enabled in both M6600/M6800 FirePro M6100. There is also a method to overclock CPUs with locked multiplier and remove TDP limitations.
Unfortunately, Dell don't want to help me at all, so that's why I have to figure out some things to be able to get my warranty service back... OMG. I know, that's quite much time passed, but the current project is on pause untill then.

    M6600 do not support Endruro.
Can you create vBios for M6600 with max power with AC and minimum clock (power) for battery mod?
Sometimes i need more duration on battery in school.
    Thank you for answer.

Want to say Good work by Valuxin. Really want to try this mod but i did a checksum check using atiflash -cf command on my vbios and the mod vbios but they come up with 2 different checksum numbers will this pose any problems during my flash?

    Thanks in advance

Also, seems like my work on this project is over. Dell don't want to give me a proper warranty support, that's why I bought Nvidia Quadro K3100m (if overclocked it's faster and cooler than M6100).

150w would not be enough: 100w GPU owerclocked + 47 CPU + ~20w other components

I'm trying to get a HP m6100(w6170m) working in a Dell m6700 laptop. It'll boot with the card, but there are two problems:

    1. The laptop can't read the cards thermocouple measurements so the GPU fan doesn't spin up when the GPU is under load.
    2. I only get an image on externally connected displays.

The second problem should be fixable by modifying the connectors information in the BIOS. Hopefully I can just copy them from a Dell AMD m6100 card. Flashing the HP card with the Dell BIOS results in an un-bootable system, so I'll have to hex mod the connectors table.

I'm kind of stuck with the fan issue though. Does anyone know what changed between the FirePro m6000 and m6100 with regards to the reading the temperature or controlling the fans? I've read there are different fan modes?!

Just to note, the Dell AMD m6100 card has the same issue. Dell released an updated system BIOS for there m6600 laptop that added support for the m6100 card but there's no update for the m6700 laptop.

    Hi valuxin,
I'm trying to find a modded vbios for M6100. Seems like your vbios collection is no longer on onedrive (link is dead). Any chance you could re-upload those? Thank you very much! :)

There is two revisions of the vBIOS mod: one for M6600 laptop, other for M6800 laptop. v2 is only available for M6800 right now. To be honest, I forgot how to do the required mod for AMD cards... It might take some days to rediscover the ways to do the mod. If you have M6600 laptop - try the vBIOS for M6800.

Thank's very much for the reply. I was wondering if it would give you a shock to see a new reply here !

    I have the M6600 laptop.

Are you saying the V2 bios for M6800 may well work on the M6600?

    Thanks again,

M6800 should work just fine. Someone reported, that everything was ok except DisplayPort output through the docking station. I highly recommend you to try it to find out does it work well on your config.

Thank you for your advice. I haven't installed the card as yet, hopefully I will do it this evening or tomorrow. Currently has an M8900 inside. I think I will be taking two machines apart though as one has better bodywork and LG screen rather than AO which seems clearer.

I am planning to remove M8900 and heatsink from one machine and transport it to the other, while moving the Quadro 4000M and heatsink into the machine which currently has the M8900.

Do you know of any picture showing how I should place the thermal pads and is there anything to be aware of on BIOS settings before installing the card? I am running A15.

    Thank you very much!

Hm... I guess you should try AMD heatsink first. Also, I suggest you to apply thermal pads manually - you need to cover memory chips and all the power components on the top of the board.

Well I installed the card but it didn't go well!

First I installed the card and put the laptop back together. On testing the temperate was quickly reaching 85 degrees which seemed a bit too high.

I took the machine all apart again and tried using a thermal pad for the GPU instead of paste. This didn't work at all and it was going over 95c so I decided to use paste again instead.

I re-pasted it and this time tried it with the laptop still open and just plugged in an external mouse. I ran a benchmark and max temperate was 69c which seemed much better!

I put the laptop back together (some time later..) Ran the same benchmark and now back at 95c! Urgh!

Not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong. The only thing I can think may have changed the contact is the screw to the right of the GPU heatsink which I only put back in when I was putting the machine back together? Nothing else changed between having 69c and 95c so I'm not really sure? Any ideas? Thanks for bearing with me!

Seems like your heatsink is incompatible with this card. Try 2nd one. The main rule for best cooling - distance between heatsink and GPU chip should not be higher than 0.05mm. Perfectly, you should buy M6100 heatsink for Dell M6600 - it's cheap and will provide you with required cooling performance.

Something really strange. I left the notebook upside down overnight, just purely wondering if the thermal compound would move. I ran it today with 3dmark 11 and the GPU temperate is now good again. It's so strange!

Anyways I think I will try the bios. Is there any particular version of ATIflash I should use or will any be fine? I presume I make a bootable disk and flash from dos prompt? Sorry for all these basic questions, I feel very behind the curve here!

I hope you got my small donation. Sorry the amount is low but maybe something is better than nothing :)

In future, if you'll notice you temps to be higher than 85 - buy original heatsink for this card. Coz all components of the board should stay cooled so that's why I highly recommend you to do that in such case to prevent damaging the video card.

If you are not using hybrid graphics you just can go with WinATIFlash up to date version.

Thnx a lot for your contribution into my work :D I really appreciate you help :notworthy:

Sorry so many questions but I just tried ATIWinflash. First It tried the m6800 bios and it goes for a moment then says VBIOS image not found. I then tried the M6600 bios and the same error. Do you know what I'm doing wrong? I was using the GUI

    Edit

Just did it with CMD. Now the system is booting but bluescreen with system service exception while trying to load Windows... uhho

    Edit 2

Used a bootable usb to reflash the original rom and windows boots fine again but with either the m6600 v1 or m6800 v2 rin rom I get system service exception bluescreen while trying to load windows.

    3
Just noticed my bios ends with 015.035.000.003.045453 and I see noted in the thread you had 015.035.000.003.044934. Do you think this could be making a difference somehow ?

The vBIOS version is not the reason. What the vBIOS have you flashed? Try this in M6800 folder: MM_1188@1375_v2.rom. Also, blue screen might be caused by the old performance table info in registry - try to remove the driver, clean the regestry, flash the vBIOS and reinstall drivers.

Thanks for reply. That is the one I tried yes. I was wondering about the drivers/registry causing the issue as I see it mentioned earlier in the thread. I shall try it!

Well after using DDU to delete the drivers and then flashing it does successfully boot to windows, but crashes with atimag bluescreen while installing the firepro drivers. Prehaps I need to reinstall Windows?

Yeah, would be great to try out fresh windows installation. Also, try to use stock vBIOSes from my collection - just to see will the blue screen appear. Also, I highly recommend you to install Windows in EFI mode. Also, you can try to install radeon crimson drivers.

I just tried switching the hard disk to one with Windows 7 on. Exactly the same crash (system service exception I think it was) while installing firepro drivers (and while booting if they are already installed at this point). If I put on normal 8950 driver it installs but device manager shows the graphics card with a ! The device has stopped due to a problem.

I have tried both the V1 and V2 BIOS but exactly the same with each. I think the machine is in Legacy mode, could that be the problem here I wonder?

Did you tried my stock vBIOS files (not modded one)? And yeah, legacy mode might be the problem - that's why i suggested to run Windows in EFI mode.

I just did a fresh install of windows in EFI mode and exactly the same crash when installing the drivers so doesn't seem to be that causing the problem :(

I didn't try the stock BIOS no, wouldn't that be the same as what the card had originally?
Except the version number on my card seems to be a bit newer

I want you to try those stock vBIOSes just to check the capability. If they would not work - it just means that your card needs another vBIOS mod.

So strange, I tested all of them and none work! As soon as I put the original one back on Windows boots just fine.

The version of the original bios end 045435

    I have uploaded it here
    https://ufile.io/7218

Not sure if that is any help or not? :) I know this is a finished project for you :(

Thnx for sharing vBIOS. Can you also post GPU-Z screenshot? It's kinda interesting what is the reason...

P.S. I've done the mod for test based on your vBIOS - you can find it in "FirePro M6100 (Dell M6800) VER015.035.000.003.045435" folder

Fantastic the modded bios you did works! Booted straight into Windows. I ran the Cloud gate test and there is an uplift in performance and gpuz/afterburner confirm the new clock speeds. Also the TDP slider (as well as clock speeds) in afterburner are now unlocked. Now I really need to perfect the heat sink installation as the fans are noticeably louder!

    Thank you so much!

In preparing to refit the cooler there is one thing I wondered. The card had thermal pads on the rear memory modules. I left them on the card but it did confuse me somewhat, as there is nothing for them to actually transfer the heat to. I wonder if they are reducing the contact pressure with the GPU die? I know it's a long time back but do you recall if you fitted thermal pads to the back of your M6100?

Seems like the revision is a bit different from what I saw in the past. Nice to hear that mod works well :) And thank you for sharing the vBIOS - the mod based on it will help people like you in future ;)
