I recently purchased a Samsung 120hz 3D monitor for gaming. It has a 2d-3d converter built in and supports AMD HD3D/SBS/TAB. I recently bought a HDMI cable to test out AMD HD3D.
The 2d-3d converter does an amazing job with 1080p games and videos with zero performance hit, however the image simply does not popout.
The SBS 3D cuts the resolution in half and is very demanding on the gpu with games, the depth is better then the 2d-3d converter and is able to have popout 3D.
Now AMD HD3D, I had no expectations in fact I figured it would be the same thing and had to see because maybe it would be better. I selected AMD HD3D and put on crysis. first thing I noticed was how sharp it was (1080p), the next thing I noticed was how amazing the depth was(screen looked like it was 100 feet deep, then I wanted to see if i could get vegetation to popout, at first I thought this is amazing but it doesnt popout, so I set my settings to default and tested it. It popped out like 6inches and had amazing depth. My opinion is its much sharper and has better depth than SBS. However with SBS I had vegetation popout like 2 feet which was unreal and one of the coolest things iv'e ever seen. and I'd imagine you know how cool that would be to see.
pros: sharp(full 1080p)
performance is very very good compared to SBS
Depth is better than anything else on the market
cons: POPout is decent but nothing like SBS
So if your into 3D you will need to understand that AMDs solution is sharp and fast but will not offer the amazing popout of side by side. So if you like the idea of incedible depth with ok popout choose AMD HD3D. And If you like things poping out of the screen and dont care about performance and resolution, pick SIDE BY SIDE.
this is for people that are curious about AMD HD3D!
