Oh yeah, no problem, I thought you wanted 6620g result. Just so you know, you can only force the dedicated card to run OpenGL if you use a modded BIOS.

Ah okay. But don't risk it if there is any chance of a problem.

No, I already have the BIOS updated, just haven't had a chance to run or dig up my images, I believe I already ran at stock (600/800) and overclocked (780/880).

I've been very impressed by Llano. I got an ideapad Z575 with an A4 in January, and was pleasantly surprised by it's performance and game compatibility. Oddly enough, some games that were previously incompatible with Seven and Arrandale graphics, magically worked, and quite well I might add, with AMD. o_O

Yeah the Lenovo Z575 is the next best thing to the Asus K53TA for a budget gamer. And since you can't really find K53TA any more (so sad), Z575 is the best bang for budget buck.

Kinda related: My A6-3400M with the 6520G runs Far Cry surprisingly well on low @ 1024x600. It has a single 4GB DIMM. This should last me until a decent Trinity laptop arrives.

The original Far Cry? That should run great at 1366x768 on high.

    HTWingNut,

Thanks so much for putting this information online, it's been very helpful for me.

I believe there's an error on the information or unless if that's formal way of putting the ram information.

    "3) 1x2GB Hynix + 2x4GB G.Skill 1333 @ CAS 9, 1.5v asymmetrical dual channel "

Shouldn't it be read 1x2GB and 1x4GB? It confused me at first but perhaps the formal way of labeling ram is (first number being the slot). slot 1 and slot 2?

But, the RAM CPU-Z screenshots made it clear
    "3) 1x2GB hynix + 1x4GB G.Skill 1333 CAS 9"

Anyways thanks, that small little text confused me.

I just purchased a NV7 from secondipity for 279.99$ I look at the specs it's similar to you're laptop! Excited to see it in person :)!

PS: Mine is a A6 not an A8!

    Good LORD at this thread!

Amazing stuff man. Just convinced me to pull the $45 trigger on two sticks of G.SKILL 4GB 1600 @ CAS 9. I'm using an Asus A53z. Got it today. It came with 4 GB of 1333 RAM. Some random brand. It's an A6-3420M APU with an AMD Radeon HD 6520G. Someone made a thread about the model and after I asked about whether or not it's worth upgrading the RAM, someone directed me here. I figure the gains will be substantial even though I've got a slightly weaker APU. But since it's an IGP, I guess faster RAM will help me a lot. :)

I'm gonna be programming / light gaming / surfing the next / writing.

Sorry for the double post, but how can I check if my motherboard supports that kind of RAM? There are two dimms but I want to make sure that the RAM is supported.

    If you're referring to a Llano system, MX CPU's support 1600MHz, M CPU's support 1333MHz.

Yes, but the real test is gaming. Even though 3DMark scores show it similar, I could play BF3 with my 6620G at 1366x768 on low at 30-35FPS. I can barely manage 30FPS with HD 4000, usually 25-28. But just or giggles, with Prema's BIOS offering GPU and RAM overclock, I ran 3DMark 11 with HD 4000 at 1300 MHz vs stock 1100MHz and RAM at 2133MHz vs 1600MHz and ended up with 844.

I have an A53z which has only the 6520G. Got it for $350, and the model with the 6520G and also a discrete GPU is around $120 more, as well as extra for the tax, at Best Buy. But anyway, do you think I could still benefit from a RAM upgrade and some CPU overclocking? Would performance increase enough to the point where I should go ahead and tinker around with this?

Note that this'll be my first attempt at overclocking and whatnot. Perhaps it'd be a good idea to learn now, on a cheaper machine, rather than on my Sager once I get it.

You will definitely benefit from a dual-channel RAM upgrade. Your iGPU will benefit and your system will benefit as well. The only "downside or negative" will be the slight decrease in battery life since two sticks require more energy. The really nice thing about Llano APUs is the ability to over/under-clock/volt. That's free performance and who would complain about that? So yes, go ahead and tinker with it because you might just learn a thing or two and get more use from your investment.

I recommend you try FusionTweaker first, as its very easy to use and great for a beginners like you and me. This app has the ability to start up automatically with the clocks and voltages you set. They become semi-permanent, so once you found the settings you like every time you turn on your computer, those settings will be there. If you want to go back to factory settings all you do is perform a reset through the app.

K10Stat is also good but there are minor differences between the two apps. For example, this app provides the ability to set up profiles, like battery saver and max performance profiles. If I remember correctly, HTWingNut told me it doesn't start up automatically in the same way as FusionTweaker. I'm not aware of any other differences.

I'm sure you can find guides on either of these two apps online for more information.

I've never tried it but would also be interested in knowing as I don't own factory set 1866 RAM. I guess I could try to reflash my Corsairs 1600 to 1866 and find out?

My guess is it probably won't work and it'll get downclocked.

1866 JEDEC speeds do not seem to work on my e425. I wish I could try out BEMP RAM.

    Hello guys,

I am also new here, I have a DV6z with the AMD A6-3410MX processor, currently thinking of upgrading it to the A8-3550MX processor and upgrading the RAM from the default 2+4GB @ 1333 MHz. I have had my display changed to the AU Optronics Full HD panel, and I have a Samsung 830 SSD as my primary drive (the HDD is in a caddy, replacing the DVD-RW) so I am guessing it's worth keeping the laptop a few more years. I am not interested in gaming, I only use linux and I was thinking of going to 16GB @ 1600MHz.

Does the A70M support this size of RAM? Has anyone tried 16GB on a DV6z laptop? To be honest, even 2x16GB have crossed my mind, but I don't think it's worth the effort, I have exhausted my 12GB of RAM on the Desktop only so few times, so there is no reason to supersize the pricetag!

Any feedback would be appreciated, on both the CPU upgrade and the RAM upgrade. As far as I have seen, no other upgrade is possible, as the Llano platform is not compatible to any other one!

    Regards,
    Aris
