Hey guys so i've finally ordered my new laptop and have heard a lot about driver issues for the HD7970M. Once I receive my laptop there's apparently a CD that comes with it where I can load drivers from. Should I do that or load them differently?

If so from the AMD website? Like Nvidia? (This is the first time i'll be using AMD)

Do I need specific drivers or anything?

Hoping to play the following games: Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider and Kingdoms of Amaleur.

    Thanks

If you're comfortable with tinkering a little bit, I can give you the full monty for clean installation..

    Otherwise,

    1. Uninstall old driver from Control Panel => Programs and Features => AMD Catalyst Install Manager (or something similar)

    2. Install Driver Sweeper and CCleaner (both free programs. Just google them) but only run them after restarting in safe mode to get rid of remnant driver files.

    3. Then go to AMD website to grab the latest driver. I'm using Catalyst 13.3 Beta 3 and I run Crysis 3, Bioshock Infinite and Tomb Raider without a hitch. Not sure about Kingdoms of Amaleur :p

With any luck you're good to go. Let us know if you run into problems! :)

Don't install 13.3, it's broken. It runs hotter than the previous drivers and Zero core refuses to work with Power Xpress 5.0. It seems Alienware are forcing power Xpress 4.0 on their machines, since Power Xpress 5.0 doesn't support manual switching.

Ok so crysis doesn't work so i'm now in the process of getting the new drivers. Do I need to uninstall AMD catalyst too? Can't seem to find exactly where the drivers are ><

On my machine, if I uninstall AMD Calyst Install Manager, there's an option for "express uninstall all AMD software". That should do the trick.

If not I hesitate to recommend ATIMan Uninstaller which has served me extremely well but has broken entire systems for other ppl

I'm not sure how much help I can be... but... after removing the first driver, have you cleaned the Registry of possible driver remains?
If not, I recommend you do it.
Ccleaner is a free program and its just about the only reliable registry cleaning tool.
Apart from that one, there's also Driver Sweeper which is reliable in removing previous GPU drivers.

Ok... so, after removing the drivers, you restart the computer in Safe Mode and run both Driver Sweeper and Ccleaner to clean up the registry of AMD drivers.
When you are done, restart back into regular Windows, and install the 13.2 drivers (preferably with Administrative Privileges) and see if that helps.

^ That's what I used to do before taking the dive with Atiman. The outcome should be comparable. As an additional pointer, when installing a new driver select custom install and only check "AMD Display Driver" and "Catalyst Control Center".

Zer0 Access, please rest assured that you'll get yourself out of this driver mess soon enough :) All it takes is a little bit of familiarity.
