AMD confirms new architecture + launch timeframe for HD6xxx
    UPDATED LINK
    http://www.techradar.com/news/compu...ics-pre-christmas-717388?src=rss&attr=newsall

Bold/Underline added by a poster at anandtech" BLASTINGCAP" for emphasis:

"Hoff was also happy to speak about it's upcoming new range of DirectX 11 graphics cards. "It's certainly more than changing a sticker," he said with a grin. "I wouldn't say it's an absolute, complete from the ground up new architecture. It's a nice, different architecture."

"A one year cadence is about the best you're ever going to see on a new architecture," he continued. "We've got another unbelievable launch, with a wide range of products. That's about the best we could dream of."
He confirmed that i t wouldn't just be the high-end card hitting the shelves by Christmas either. It wont be the full lineup, but we will see multiple SKUs of the card with the complete range following very quicky."

This corroborates with AMD's CEO mentioning earlier in the year (on a financial conference call) that AMD would be coming out with new video cards before the end of 2010.

Various sources have claimed an October launch for at least one HD6xxx GPU, including Digitimes (I'd link to the article but it's now behind a paywall).

Now let's just hope they price 'em right!

I have seen a few threads talking about the 6870 cards all being desktop which is certainly what we will have to see first long before we see the Mobile versions... Maybe by CES we will get some news .. Maybe not ;)..

Besides, it's likely that the Mobile 6870 will have closer performance to the 6770, so that's really the one people should be watching.

First desktop cards we see probably won't be the 6870s but the mainstream parts from 6700 down. I'm expecting we'll see Blackcomb/Mobility 6870 announced in Oct./Nov. along with the mainstream desktop parts but won't be able to buy notebooks with them until after CES.

My pessimism prevents me from expecting any notebook manufacturers to offer a Crossfire rig with Llano....but if the idea doesn't come to them to do it by the time Bulldozer rolls out I'll be genuinely disappointed.

As far as I'm concerned, Bulldozer notebooks with even a single discrete GPU better be making use of Crossfire. :D
