Talk of splitting off the graphics division, getting out of the microserver market, etc... If the graphics side is actually profitable (not sure) this COULD potentially be a good thing for the graphics side of the company.

NBR is not the best place to discuss industry rumors. Beyond3D has entire megathreads devoted to this stuff.

Party pooper!
So what will AMD call its new GPU division/franchise? ATi?
-
It will be called Samsung

I never liked them anyway.

Well, I'm discussing it here, you can feel free to ignore the thread.moviemarketing, TomJGX and be77solo like this.
-
Whatever it's called, mind you none of this is confirmed to actually be happening but this is strong words, I just hope it's profitable.

Considering is the wrong word IMO. They hired consultants to examine the options, and while breaking up the company is one of them, it's not like they're actively considering it, just that it's an option on the table.

I don't see how company hearsay is directly related to "Gaming (Software and Graphics Cards)" or how NBR has anything to contribute to this discussion beyond spinning the rumor mill considering that 99% of members here either don't give a rat about AMD or hate it with a passion. At Beyond3D at least you have some industry insiders and tech reviewers/journalists hanging around who can give more insight.triturbo likes this.

Give Nvidia x64, obtaining x86 under a similar agreement to what's now and Intel AMD's graphics and let them fight it out.

Since the rumor has been put to bed I'm going to close this.
