I am perfectly satisfied with my AMD powered notebook. I don't see myself upgrading for atleast another year or two.

All the gaming conferences, and the gaming consultation with game developers are with AMD not ATi. Even when go for graphics online, for a long time now, their website has been AMD Gaming, not ATi Gaming.
I still don't get the hate for AMD. I can't think of anything that AMD might have done to anger anyone. They have always provided affordable performance.
As far as I'm concerned, AMD does the best they can to allow ALL, and EVERYONE to enjoy the best games have to offer, and the best computers to offer at an affordable price.
What is there to be so angry about? -
R.I.P. ATI. It's going to be odd referring the Radeons as an AMD instead of an ATI after so many years. Though I still gladfully take their mobile graphics solutions over NVIDIA's anyday given their previous track record.

I 100% agree that AMD's option should definitely be much better than HT, so given the same number of threads, AMD should spank Intel. Although core for core, Intel will still likely beat AMD. -

Noooo.....it was one of the better Canadian companies. *sad face*

I would never dream of putting an nvidia chip on a laptop... not the way they are currently, at least.
Not gonna lie though, I'd probably go nvidia on a desktop all the way. It just seems AMD (ahuehuehauhue) gives me more per ounce of battery juice... Well, I haven't gotten the chance to test drive a graphics switching machine yet! -
I sort of have the opposite opinion. 5000 series desktop cards offer serious performance on less power and less $, but nvidia's optimus is superior to "amd's" switching currently

SoundOf1HandClapping Was once a Forge
Granted, the song that came on was the cover, not the original, but still. Haha.
I wonder how weird it'll be to have a computer with both major Intel and AMD components in it.
"I have an Intel/AMD machine!"
"Aren't they direct competitors?"
"Don't ask questions." -

does not ati have licences to make chipset for intel just like nvidia?
that could get even worst -
it just seems like to me amd wants their name on more hardware. they want people familiar with the amd name more.
this will also cause intel to lean on hardware developers to not use amd in their intel chipset machines. -

I can't believe you guys are killing yourself over 2 changed letters in the name.
You're worse than Runescape players after a system update. -
Lol.
A name change is not a big deal.
It's more or less expected.
Might take time for some to get used to it, but other than it will be fine. -

Yeah, in opinion, ATI is a better sounding name than AMD. Having an AMD graphics card just sounds weird.
-
ATI sounds cooler than AMD
Every time i mentioned AMD to a friend he used to say "ooh aren't those really hot" -
to me its just marketing strategy.
between the two brands, it seems that ati has the better positive consumer feedback, as amd had been lagging intel (cpu-wise) in the past years. however ati is the brand that could and should beat gpu giant nvidia and has been doing it in the mobile and desktop consumer market in the past years, and until recently.
now aside from the obvious fact that marketing one brand instead of two if more practical budget wise, i think the 'smart people' in amd want some of that positive consumer feedback and loyalty of their graphics card to rub off on the amd brand name as a whole. could be a smart move, and they could use the now renamed amd gpu's to spearhead amd's brand awareness.
this could be a boon for us since it could also mean that amd may be willing to put in more resources into gpus since it will be a co-flagship product together with the cpu's -
"ooh, wasn't that a remark of an ignorant fool?" -

I had an HP with a 1.8 GHz Turion x2. It certainly was warm, though it was for me quite a powerful machine at the time.

To be honest I was surprised that they didn't change the name from day one. But now it seems kind of silly. Even if only a name, ATI is recognized and don't know how it would hurt them to keep it or how it helps them to eliminate it.

Ultimately, it probably won't make a big difference either way, but it's a shame to kill the brand. -
Quite honestly, I thought this could help the brand. Many people I know knew ATi graphics not by "ATi" but by "Radeon". If they see AMD and then Radeon, they might think "Oh, so they were responsible for this Radeon awesomeness? Lemme try their CPUs!" and then AMD sells more CPUs.
I could be totally wrong though. -
