I was trolling around looking for new news about the official driver for the 7970m and saw this (2nd post)
"AMD rep said they do NOT provide drivers for laptop graphics cards and that it is the reseller's (Dell's) responsibility to create a driver compatible with the system from the basic AMD reference driver."
    Official 7970M Drivers?

Is this for real or rumor? Does AMD usually support official drivers on their mobile GPU's in the past?

They will release an official driver that supports 7970m, leaked 12.7 shows so, it's in the supported card list.
    Card installs fine without mods.
Even if this is going to happen just don't worry about it, like it happened with Nvidia, you can edit the INI that specify what cards are supported fairly easy thus modding the drivers for supporting the new card.
It's nothing to worry about, really.

another component is that they cant technically label it as official because it wont be supported by all laptop manufacturers. for instance our clevos and alienwares will support it, but some gateway or sony may block installation of drivers that arent supplied by them

12.7 will be the first official drivers that support the 7970m

And for those that don't know how the naming convention works...

    Year.month
    20 12 0 7 or 12.7

So these are slated to be released in July

Ah so that's what it means. Cool.
Too bad the admins closed the 7970m vs 680m thread :(
