Was wondering how playable these games are on the mid range chips.

I will be getting mine soon (6600 go) but was hoping for a teaser.

I guess my expectations are these:

    1. Will play the game very well but not at the highest settings
    2. Will play the game acceptably (playable without being a liability in the framerate department) at the highest settings

Would my assumptions be correct? Anyone have any thoughts?

I play BF2 on my 256MB X700 at maximum, and that is at a 1400x1050 resolution - looks beautiful. Seeing that you have a similar card, you should be able to play at similar settings. I have found that the X700 is a bit faster than the Go6600, so while you might not be able to play at the maximum settings, I'd say at least medium-high. Turning the resolution down to 1280x960, you'll be able to play at max.

I don't know too much about the 6600 Go, but I have the 6800 Go and it is great for playing those games on almost the highest settings. I don't see why you would have a problem doing almost the same on the 6600 Go.

If you compare the benchmarks, the GeForce Go6800 256MB is about 35% faster than the 256MB Go6600. ;)

    Cheers,

    yep, it works well on your card! the x700 ~ 6600go but the x700 is a little bit faster in direct3d ( fear, nfs:mw ) but the 6600go beats the x700 in opengl ( doom3, quake4 )

Well, technically BattleField 2 requires a 128MB video card, but with lower settings (mainly setting the textures down), you should be able to play it decently. Just be sure that you have the latest drivers for best performance. ;)

I played it not too long ago on a 64MB card - played fine.

I play it on a 1.73Ghz, 2GB Ram, 64MB x700 at middling resolution. Plays fine. I think with tweaking the settings, I could even get the resolution up higher.

I used to play it when my machine only had 512MB of RAM and it worked ok on lower settings, then, too. Doesn't even look all that bad at 800x600 or the 920 res. 1024x768 and up is when it really shines though. Like he said, just keep the textures down and a 64MB card will do ok.
