I have a Dell 1520 with 8600 gt. This game is great. Maybe you read my other post about it, but after having the game for over a week, I wanted to provide an update...

People are making PHENOMINAL custom missions for this game and it is an absolute blast playing these games online. If you want a game that will push your system to the limit, then try ARMA.

Quick synopsis about the game: It is a military FPS shooter that allows you to drive anything on the map, free roam across huge maps that make oblivion small (ok maybe I am exagerating here), and custom make missions that are NEVER the same twice. This is the BEST military game I have ever played.
Compare to a much more free roaming Ghost Recon...

    Best Wishes,

Hmm. I've heard about this game before, but I've never really looked into it. I see that its got the Beretta M9 in it, so it can't be too bad. I'll have to do some research on it. Thanks for the tip...

Edit: How are the graphics? I've looked at the screenshots, but seeing it motion gives a better idea to what the graphics and animation is really like.

As a veteran Operation Flashpoint player, I have to tell you that Operation Flashpoint is better than ARMA.

So far none of the missions in Arma have given me the same feeling Operation Flashpoint: Resistence gave me. Imagine you control a rag-tag squad of freedom fighters and are defending a small base with just a couple of RPG`s, mines, two rusty T-54`s and one BMP and the wraith of a soviet tank platoon is about to wipe you out along with helicopter gunships.

The demo was a turn off for me.

It ran and played horribly, so I have no intentions of even buying the game.

8600 Gt runs medium. It looks fine, I have aa disabled and everything else on normal. 1024x768.
Even nvidia 7950 has a hard time running 50 fps. I run about 35 to 40 fps. Max is 47. Dont let the FPS ruin the game for you.

Just cause you can't run it at 100 fps should not change your decision to buy the game. That is like saying, since my car won't run 1/4 mile in 13 seconds I am NEVER going to race.

It will take a bit of tweaking but once you have finished it is an awesome game. Runs fine on Dell 1520 with 8600gt. T7300 2.0ghz duo core 2.

I'm in the forces personally, and Operation Flashpoint was the closest thing to real life that i've encountered in a computer game. (Though dont get me wrong, it was still horribly unrealistic in many terms, no game will ever be realistic)

I even burned a few copies of it for a few lads who are training on the AT4 here recently (SRAAW).

But fundamentally it was fantastic to play, It gives anyone with an interest in the military a decent perspective of the various weapon systems and small unit tactics nevermind the fundamental fact that one bullet can kill you and no you cannot take out a whole platoon with just one m4 and 3 clips to spare. (playing on a map you know off by heart seriously does not count)

I played OFP:R against the local army reserve unit, it was good fun, but I'd played the game a lot longer than they had, so I was better.

And, I like ArmA, but it doesn't run right on my X1400 (can't turn off HDR or the grass) so my mouse is slow to react, making the game completely unplayable. Hopefully when I get a new computer I will play it more often (or better yet, bring out a PS3 version).

What specs were you playing it on?

I'm curious about this game, if its worth it. Its got a lot to live up to.

I'm a bit of a conservative when it comes to games, i still play flashpoint, original half-life based mods, starcraft etc and pretty hesitant to try out new games.

Just bought a new alienware m9750 so i'll be testing the newer games now. I think its time i move on slightly! *shock*

I'm looking for games similar in content to Operation Flashpoint when it comes to small unit tactics and content.

Its odd, but when I tried the demo I experienced a strange lag. Almost like mouse lag. I experienced this no matter what I set the graphics at, and considering that I've got 2 gigabytes of DDR2-800, an nVidia 8800GTS, and an AMD X2 4200+ processor I really shouldn't have that problem. Flying the helicopter was quite fun, but ground combat was totally unplayable due to the lag I mentioned. I even set the view distance at the minimum allowable, and even that didn't help. Even setting the mouse deadzone to zero appeared to have no effect.

Too bad too, it looked like it could have been a fun game. I guess the developers rushed it out the door without proper testing. That seems to happen a lot these days.

Yes, Give ARMA a try. It is really good. Don't let the Demo fool you either. Their are some fools that ruin MP on the demo but the game is really good. I have been hooked the last week... Just so DARN hard...
