I have an ASUS G2
- Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2Ghz
- 3GB Ram
- nVidia 8600m GT 256
- Vista 32-bit
The problem occurred about 2 months ago.
When i would begin to play a game within
minutes of playing the game would slow to
a near stop.
The laptop comes with a disc to revert to
factory settings. I did this and it never fix
the issue at all.
With Cod:waw, within 5minutes of play it
begin to lag, and the memory shoots up to
670,000K and the CUP is from 50-60 from
the task manager.
Core temp, idle with a few firefox tabs up
its running at 98'C..
Cant upgrade the video drivers, from what
i know of anyhow.. Since ive had an ASUS
the ASUS live update hasnt even given me
a single update. Had it for year and a half.
If you need more info ask, and if i know how,
ill try to provide it. Thanks.
-
well it seems that the temps are the ones interrupting your gaming the cpu/gpu is down clocking itself to try to keep cool....... has it any period turned off on u just out of no were.......
-
Nope, my computer probably only twice
since ive had it, has restarted on me or
shut down. -

Why dont you update via nvidia.com?
-
I believe thats what i was told, which
needs to be updated via ASUS website.
I have seen some 8600GT downloads,
a few months back, but i never messed
around with it. -
your gpu is well known for having failure issues/heating issues maybe it is the temps maybe not try to update drivers then see if it happens again...how long u had your laptop for? update it manually through the nvidia site
-

i highly doubt that, you should find out. Ive talked to alot of people about there G2's an no one EVER mentioned anything like that maybe im wrong though?
edit: talking to xzile -
I might as well give it a go.
Ive had my Laptop since November of 07.. Im
still under warranty, if i still have my receipts
around. -

well if anything goes wrong you can just roll back to the last driver but dont worry about it i doubt anything is gonna happen because of a driver update.
-
-
ASUS has updates on their website, but there
are a few 8600 256 drivers and nowhere can i
find which exact driver my laptop has.
Downloading GeForce Release 185 for Notebooks.
See how that turns out in a few minutes. -

it should be good, let us know
-
changed on my LCD tv so i went into settings
and seen over double the resolution options
as before. So i assume the driver did infact
update ?
Also the temp at start up was 97, playing cod
its at 107.
When updating a driver does performance get
better ? As well as mouse movement ?
Cause frame rates seem smoother now as well
as does mouse movement.. Also past the spot
where the computer would usually slow down.
I need some sleep, work in 4hrs. If you have
any advice on how to cool down a laptops
temp i would appreciate it.
Thanks for the help tonight. -

Yes the performance normally gets better and even though it may get hotter you normally get a boost in FPS even if your 3dmark goes down that whay it so important to update lets say....once a year or so.
You want to cool the notebook down look at cooler or jack up the back of the notebook so it elevates from the back and touches the ground in the front good luck and no problem for the help. -
for one your pc shouldnt idle at 97 thats way to high........those temps can cause hardware issues....
-

Unless his 8 series is starting to go now? Also that 107 CELCIUS right? If its Farenheit you should be fine.
-
im pretty sure its Celsius.....
-

Lol OMG he went to work maybe it will explode while he is away!
*to the bat mobile* -
LOL We need something faster than that batman to the BAT JET.........
i hope its ok thats really high temps dam feel sorry he logged off already... -
Those temps are wayyyyyyyy too high. Hell, mine idles at ~60c. I hear most 8600m gt do.
-
Clean the vents. If not it needs re-pasting? with artic or something alike.
-
If he's still under warranty he can report what appears to be another failing Geforce 8600M GT and have it replaced by ASUS with a Geforce 9500M GS.
-
You mentioned having it since 07. How often do you get rid of the dusts in the vents? If it's clean, I really suggest quickly asking for a replacement for GPU if it's still under warranty
-
Thats a pretty sweet deal.
The 9500m gs is li ke 10% or so faster then the 8600m gt -
The fan on the back, i cant get the whole back of to get
at the vent, without great trouble so i stopped.
I left the back off and planted the back up on something.
The temp after start up was 58'C, so i put the back on,
and laid it back on the floor, now its at 68'C and with a
constant rise.
Must just be the back vent, which i cant get at to clean.
Should i just leave the bottom off and keep it lift up ?
Or should i say heating problems and try getting a new one. -
-
Well my laptop is idling at 80'C with the back
panel off and lifted.. So it must be the card
itself. -
Has anyone ever tried updating bios as a
solution to fixing an overheating issue ?
Asus finally wrote me back saying to try
updating my bios.
Along with a lot of spelling errors. -
i surely thought updating your bios will really decrease the temps.....
-
Custom bios would decrease the temps, you would have to change the clocks,
You could also remove drivers and reinstall with a cool pair (i heard 185 are quite hot and 182 are farely cool) -
107 Celcius is very high, also dangerous for your card's life, especially a notorious card like the 8600m gt that's known to be defective.
I suggest you find a guide to opening the laptop, clean out all the fan, and the hestsink (covered by the fan) you can't usually see the heatsink without removing the fan, and the heatsink is what usually gets clogged with dust and causes high temps.
If however you think your warranty might be void by opening up the laptop (not sure of how ASUS laptops are built) then you shot take some screenshots of the high temps, and take the laptop back telling them it is overheating and causing major problems for you.
This is probably best for you if you don't feel comfortable opening your laptop, or are worried that you might void the warranty.
hope this helps -
The asus g2s is a hassle to get apart.
I tried once and i unscrewed everything
i seen and the back still would not come
off.. The guys at the store even had to
install the extra ram because it was just
such a hassle.
Ill update the bios, if that doesnt work
im going back to the store i bought it from
and them to check it out. If its a hardware
issue, theyll send it back.
I just dont trust tech guys at computer stores. -
Cant be my Bios. Their website says
that 300 is their current version from
well over a year and a half ago, and i
get this error.
