    Hi!

Radditz told me the other day that a new laptop with new 15,4 graphics card is coming. It is called Asus V1J. There is a version of it now, with same name, but with Mobility x1600. The V1J coming 25 September has a ati x1650.

    Whats the difference?

Mobility x1650 has 24 pixel something and 8 something, whereas mobility x1600 has 12 and 4.

    Im asking you the following:

This laptop includes many useless things that rocket the price, like fingerprint detector (not joking) and useless services.

Since I dont wanna pay 2000€ for things i wont use, I would like to know if you think x1650 will be also included in other laptops, not being an exclusive for Asus V1j. In other words, do you think X1650 will be shipped in laptops in the near future??

    Hands on for the laptop!!

Well fingerprint scanner isn't useless as it allows for a quick and secure way to log in, after the inital setup. Of course it does mean there is only one point of failure; the software

And of course the X1650 will be shipped in more than one laptop - why would it be the first not to?

And a webcam, spill-proof keyboard and swappable module bay are actually quite usefu imo and shouldn't be dismissed as gimmicks. Not to mention the laptop will ship with an express card slot!

P.S. Asus.com have it listed with a X1600...not that I want to dampen your spirit or anything. I presume Radditz means a configuration refreshment of the laptop, Does that last sentence make sense grammatically? :p

I've not done french for 2 years now since I left high school, but on the forum link you gave it lists the laptop with a X1600, however the poster then expresses his disappointment that the laptop won't be available with Merom and the X1650 until the end of September

    :)

But man is that one beautifully designed piece of hardware

Edit: I've just re-read your first 2 lines. I'll find a cave somewhere now...ruined my day that...my incompetence

I do not think the X1650 will be much more powerful over the X1600.

The X1650 (as well as the X1350, X1450...) is probably built on an 80nm process, vs the current X1000 series cards which are based on a 90nm.

Anyone have confirmed specs on the updated graphics card? Naming it X1650 sounds more like a speed bump with increased core and mem clocks. Doubling the number of pipelines and pixel shaders is a pretty big upgrade that seems to merit a bigger name change.

simple explanation..smaller nm process the better..means they can fit more onto the chip which leads to better performance..also should run cooler than a higher nm

Aaaah no X1700 but an X1650? Those guys at ATI are stupid, they should continue with the X1700 line because X700 and 9700 were very very popular in 15.4" notebooks. I sometimes just don't get these people.

Are you sure there is a Mobility X1650? I haven't heard anything about a 80nm version of the M56.

In any case, the desktop X1650Pro is actually a relabeled X1600XT and it doesn't guarantee 80nm either since both 90nm RV530 and 80nm RV535 chips are going to be branded X1650Pro. Also, the desktop X1600Pro which is basically equivalent to the Mobility X1600 is now called the X1300XT and can also use 90nm RV530s or 80nm RV535s.

Also, the 8 pipeline, 24 pixel shader part you are describing is the RV560 which is going to become the X1650XT. However, there also aren't any reports of a mobile version of that. Besides, I would think a mobile version of the RV560 would be labeled the Mobility X1700 since the motivation for using the X1650 moniker doesn't exist in mobile as it does in desktop.

I haven't heard of a mobile version of the X1650 either, nor have a seen a Mobile card that has a xXX50 in it.

Hope the overall structure of the x1650 isn't so much different from the x1600. If the x1650 does have a substantial performance gain over the x1600, it would be nice for us x1600 owners to be able to upgrade to it.

Yah I know, wishful thinking, but one can always wish! >.>

Wow... 24 pixel pipelines! Thats like the 7900GS/GT/GTX out there! Thats a high end card! As long as it does not take up to many extra watts, who knows... something like this might appear in a 14" notebook's down the road.... :D

As long as X1600/GF7600 is fastest what I can get in 14" I won't change my laptop...but even than I think upgrading it now, when DX10 cards are around the corner I think it's a little pointless.
