HI!
I want to get a 14inch laptop for college. I really like the hp dv2000t but i don't know if it will be satisfactory for my gaming habits. I mainly play games like Battlefield 2. I was wondering if the hp would play that game on low to mid settings at a decent framerate. It only has a 7200 video card. I have been surfing these forums and everybody mentions the asus A8Js and W3J.
I'm pretty new to the scene so i have never even heard of asus. Does anybody know of the build quality and customer support of asus? Is there a way to check out the asus laptops in person? (I absolutely loved the Sony SZ on paper but i hated it in person.) I don't really know if i should go with a brand i never heard of. I would love to go w/ the hp if you guys think it will play BF2. Does anyone know if HP plans to upgrade the video card in the dv2000 series anytime soon? Any other laptop suggestions?
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
(i can spend 2 grand)

If you live in North US. ASUS support is better than any other one.[sometimes they fix and return the laptop in several hour].
The build quality and the screen of A8 series isn't impressive at all,but for W3J,nothing beats it [absolutely].X1600 and X1700 [if you go for V1Jp] are at least 3-4 times more powerful than 7200 and 2 times more powerful than 7400 and 7300 and X1400.
But remember, ASUS W3J is reaching EOL.Meaning that it's driver support might not continue in months coming.(hence I suggest ASUS V1Jp but it's a little more expensive than $2000) -
Asus is one of the best computer manufacturers in the business. Its hard to top their quality and reliability. I've never owned one of their laptops, but I've seen them in person and they are extremely impressive. None of my friends who have them have ever had a problem.
I have owned many Asus motherboards over the years and the quality has been amazing. -

Asus, you may have read somewhere, is an ODM, or an Original Design Manufacturer. They make the basic chassis, motherboard etc. for companies like Apple, Dell etc, who then add the othr components, and then rebrand the laptop and sell it.
If you are worried about the build quality of Asus, don't be. The build qualityranges from satisfactory to quite good, and never have I seen anyone call an Asus badly built.
For your purpose, the V1Jp would be quite good, as well as the G1. But mind you, they both come with a 15.4" screen. It would be easier if you filled out a FAQ, and posted it... -
In this direct comparison the v2000 is a nicer laptop if u ignore the gpu.
I like the screen on the a8j better but the dv2000 is smaller tougher and it has nicer speakers.
The 7700 go is like 4 times the speed of the 7200 or more.
You could not play battlefield 2 very well with a 7200 -
