I am looking at a 13.3" machine with an ATI 3470
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220336
and a 14" machine with an ATI 3650.
newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220303
Notebookcheck, says that basically the 3650 is about 40% more powerful than the 3470. The FEAR (max settings) benchmark they have puts the 3650 at 22 fps avg and the 3470 at 13 fps.
I have read on some other sites (laptopmag) that the 3470, combined with a P8400 puts out around 40 fps on FEAR with max settings.
Anyone have some real data on what to expect with a 3470.
I want to stay with the 3470 notebook, it can accept a nine cell and I wanted a 13", but if Notebookcheck is accurate I guess I will go with the 14".
Any thoughts?
(Sorry for butchering the links, I only have 1 or 2 previous posts, board requires 15 to post links.)

the 3650 is a lot more powerful period
-
The 3470 is just an overclocked 3450, which is an entry level gaming card. The 3650 is capable of playing much more demanding games than the 3470, no contest.
-
The GPU bottlenecks gaming more than the CPU so if the CPUs are even remotely similar, the machine with the HD3650 will be superior.
The question is, what is more important to you? You mention portability, 9 cell batteries and all that. If those are important criterias for you then go for the HD3470 machine(heck, gaming on such a small screen is kind of iffy IMO anyways >.>). -
Well, I know the 3650 is going to be more powerful, but does anyone know how much more powerful?
Is it the difference between COD 4 running and not running? Is it a 30, 10, 5 FPS drop in a game like FEAR?
I have a HTPC with an HD2600 in it, would the Mobility 3470 be faster? -
its not the difference between COD 4 running and not but is it the difference between having to use the bare minimum settings and being able to get medium-high settings on those games, the 2600 would still probably be faster than the 3470 cause even tho its an older generation card its still a mid level one and not entry level.
-
i currently have a 3470 (specs in sig) and for my needs (i'd say some rts games - such as CoH - or some source-based games - such as CS:S or soon-to-be Left 4 Dead - now and then) it does well/good
-
The difference between a HD3470 and an HD3650 is noticeable yes. It's like comparing the 8400 to a 8600 from nvidia which have noticeable difference. For one, the HD3470 is a 64bit bus while the HD3650 can be a 128bit if my memory serves me well, which will yield better performance generally('gaming' cards are the ones with 256bit bus).
The HD3470 should still be able to play games. Heck, the ATI HD3200 integrated GPU can play games, but you'll have to tone down the settings and resolutions to get a fully smooth gameplay.
I'd suggest asking around from people with a HD3470 to see what settings/resolutions they're playing at to get an idea of how well it performs. -
the difference is double:
1800 3dm06 vs 3600 3dm06 -
Here's the 3470 thread:

The 3650 will outperform the HD2600 by a small margin. They're basically the same card.
Maybe tell us what games you intend to play and what your preferred settings would be? -
notebookcheck is not a good source to go by. the hd 3650 is at least 2x more powerful. notice the 128bit memory vs 64bit. expect the hd 3650 to play most games at native res mid-high, while the hd 3470 can barely manage low settings on reduced res (in some cases games are even unplayble at all)
-
i wouldnt go that far, the 3470 can hold its on with most games, heck even crysis will run low on it, but yea its the difference between mostly low settings on newer games and getting med-high settings with the 3650
-
660hpv12 how does your 8400m GS do? cause the 3470 will be slightly better than that to get an idea.
-
Well considering the ATI HD3200 can run most games and also run Crysis on low(or was that Warhead, I forgot), I'm sure the HD3470, which is supposed to be better than the HD3200, should be able to at the very least run most games if the settings are lowered enough.
-
since when did LOW at 20fps become playable?
yikes
a 3470 is a bad choice for Crysis.
if games are important to you, buy accordingly -
-
Yeah if you take your gaming seriously, then you should indeed buy accordingly. If not, then well you get what you get. The HD3470 can mostly play old games fine, but it'll struggle with newer ones.
I'm just wondering about that person here on NBR who said they managed to play Crysis ok with an HD3200. Wonder what "ok" means for them -
Yeah, they must have made a mistake. Currently there is no IGP that can run Crysis effectively.
-
how do you guys think the 3470 will run left 4 dead? its a source engine game, and i can run CS:S on high at a high framerate, but i know that l4d is newer thus the playability on the card may be different
-
Yeah I made a mistake, the guy was talking about Warhead, which apparently has lesser requirements than the regular Crysis right?
Anyways, according to this thread, he was able to run quite a load of games on the HD3200(with minimal settings of course):
