    Hi Everyone!

So I have the n81vp-d1 with an ATI 4650 gddr3 graphics card.

I have read many a forum on notebookreview and google searched online.

However, after downloading Rivatuner, and atitools I still can not figure out how to overclock this graphic card? It won't give me the options to get to the sliders to move, or in ati tools, the sliders just don't work in any coherent way.

Is this a driver issue? I thought I might have read somewhere that I need to install old drivers in order to overclock the card....Is this true?

Thanks for all your wonderful help!

I use TechPowerUp GPUTool and it works great, check it out.

What is the actual average gain you get from OCing that particular chip?
I always go with 3Dmarks06, because it uses standard settings so it's easier to compare.

Thanks HydroGuy! That tool worked great!

What tool do you use to monitor your temperatures for the GPU? The tools I found have only picked up my CPU. My GPU temp does not show up on them.

Any recommendations on which tool to use for the ATI 4650?

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, I seem to have change the wrong settings somehow. How do I totally wipe the driver so that none of the programs I downloaded affect the graphic card? I want to start from scratch with it.

With stocks I was first getting a score of 6500...Now I am only getting about 3950...

I have no clue where my computer went wrong...Sniff...Sniff...

Overclocking is not for the average guy I guess.

Anyone have any clue how my score could just drop by 2500 points like this? I have been trying to figure out how to get it back to its stock score...But, I have no clue what happened!

Could it just be the reader maybe?

To totally wipe older drivers, I always use DriverCleaner Pro. I think there is another software (think it's called driver sweeper or something) around that does the same. Drivercleaner pro is getting hard to find maybe you'll have to go on P2P networks to find it.

Anyway, IMHO, it's not the problem. Maybe you go too high and the GPU throttles down because of overheating, maybe the power saving sheme you're using is not the proper one and doesn't use the CPU/GPU to it's full potential.

First, try to get your 6500 score back (which was already good IMHO).

Also, every overclocking utilities are made to be used on stand-alone GFX cards, not onboard...like in your case, I don't know if the GFX card (although a discrete card)can still be soldered on the motherboard and won't behave exactly like a standalone.

On MY laptop, using "balanced" or "power-saving" schemes will gives me lower 3d marks scores. If I use "max performance", the CPU won't be held back.

    Woot woot!

Thank you so much exercise! The drive scrubber program worked great! I have my score back to 6500. Now I know what to do if I mess the overclocking utility up at all. I might start to play with the overclocking tools later again this week. +1 rep.

I'm thinking of picking up the N81Vp-D1. How is the GPU holding up with a little OC'ing? Have you played any really new games at native res and thought, "OK, this isn't really working out..."?

    Thanks
