    Looking at two notebooks with the two cards, which is the obvious choice?

    Thanks!

    Edit: I won't need DX11 as I'm StarCraft 2 is the game I play 90% of the time..

    Well, according to Notebookcheck it would seem as though the 360m is faster...it has an average score of 5650 in 3D Mark Vantage where as the 5830 only has 4785 in 3D Mark Vantage...thats nearly a 1000 point difference...however, I dont know how accurate these scores are.

    The GTS 360m however only has 96sp but has DDR5 and a 128-bit bus compared to the 5830 800 shader cores and DDR3 on a 128-bit bus. Comparing things like core speed and RAM speed...Id say that the 360m would be the faster of the two...but not by MUCH...but enough to justify getting it.

    It would at first seem that the 5830 would be faster considering it has the same core as the 5870...but the DDR3 RAM, along with slower clocks holds it back big time...if you can overclock however...you should be able to quickly close the gap between the 360m and 5830.

    I dont know...Im kinda torn now LOL! See what others have to say...on paper it would look like the 360m is faster, but Im sure the 5830 could hold a pretty high stable overclock rather easily and that would probably crush the 360m...

    What resolution and settings will you be playing at? I would still say the 360M as being the better card though for gaming even with OCing the HD 5830.

    FYI: I'm looking at the HP Envy 15 and the Asus G60JX.

    sgogeta4;
    I'll be playing at 1366x768, prefer lower native resolution for game performance. ;)

    So you can write the 5830 off that fast? None of you even have either GPU!!! Sigh...

    The 360M is going to be a little bit faster than the 5830. But the 5830 will put out a little less than half the heat of the 360M. The 5830 is a VERY respectable chip, and almost all of them overclock quite well, 20% memory overclocks are commonly achievable, and a 10% core speed boost, getting it performing pretty close to a stock 360M.

    I'm biased, but I love my Envy. It is a pretty darn good gaming machine, and the style and performance and size are just unmatched. Just make sure you understand the tradeoff of not having an internal optical drive.

    Regardless of performance differences, I wouldn't buy an Asus G60JX. Too poorly built.

    i would say G60jx but u might not get a full HD screen.. anyways , u might want to consider Asus G73.. slightly more expensive but no performance issues at all.. top laptop :D

    I had the G73JH, but sold it to a friend, way too powerful for my use. :D

    Picked up a G60JX for 900$ on ebay, 1 year global warranty kind of sealed the deal. The HP looks great though, if the Asus should fail I'm going for the HP. :)

    Thanks for all the info guys, really helps hearing your opinion on stuff!
