    Hey,

I was wondering is the 6970m powerful enough to play 3d game. I'm planning to get the Acer HS244HQ bmii 24". It come with 3d glass and it output 3d via Hdmi 1.4 which mean it also work with the ps3. The specification said it's compatiable with the AMD HD3D . I was wondering can I hook this monitor up through via hdmi and get 3d or I have to get that dual link dvi cable thing? Any information is greatly appreciate. Thank in advance!!!

Considering that the 6970M is the top mobile card from AMD/ATI as of now...

I'm VERY inclined to say yes. Yes it can.

I dont know if the m15x does support 3D off the HDMI with the "unofficial" AMD upgrade.
Does the notebook feature a HDMI 1.4 port?
If it does you also probably gotta get additional for games that doesent support native 3D.

I don't know if it support 1.4 hdmi, if not then I can use the dual link dvi which had been test to work with other 3d monitor.

btw i own that monitor, check the sig. Just did a few hours in DNF with 3dVision enabled.
Its an awesome monitor specially for consoles, the definition is insane, the colors/blacks/whites are well saturated and bright.
The only downside is that you cant touch brightness over hdmi, just vga. Well most of the games, if not all of them, have a built in brightness/gamma adjustment.
Theres a bit of crosstalking, thats mainly because is still a cheap 3d monitor, but it does his job perfectly.
Mortal Kombat on ps3 with 3d enabled is just awesome, like wipeout or Motorstorm Pacific Rift 3d.

How does the 1.4 hdmi work? Is the pin actually different then the 1.3. I know my laptop is 1.3 but if I hook a 1.4 will it work because the 6970m support 1.4? Thank!

only 1.4 support passing 3d, and yes the cable is different, with a different pin layout

    Heya,

Even if it does support it (which is not guaranteed!) would it be powerful enough?

You literally have to half the frame rates, bear that in mind when gaming, could I play with half the frame rate?

just get the results of a 6850 and divide it by 2

    here it is:

    AnandTech - Bench - GPU11

basically you need to lower the settings

That not true mate, just check google. Technically 3d over hdmi needs at least hdmi 1.3a, as the bandwidth required for the 3d signal is well supported even with a standard hdmi 1.2 cable.

In fact with my ps3 I'm using a standard gamestop hdmi 1.3c cable. The more pins as you observed in hdmi 1.4 are those needed for Ethernet, as 1.4a standard let's you do audio/video/network with just one cable.

To sum it up: you don't need an expensive hdmi1.4a cable, a cheap 1.3c will suffice. Don't forget that ps3 have a standard hdmi 1.3 output ;)
In the hs244hq bmii monitor, however, there's an hdmi 1.4a cable included.

If the 460m can game 3D on medium settings, the 6970 will be able to game 3D on high settings since the 6970 is over 50% faster than the 460m.

    Fun Fact:

If anyone wants to hook up their consoles to their laptops, just ensure that it has an HDMI- In option like the M17X-R3 has :)

All the game that I play get atleast 60 to 150 fps max out. So I don't think there should be a problem with running game atleast high with 3d enable.
