I don't know if you have checked, but it seems faster than 7.2 (the last I was using). 7.7 seems to be very bad. Edit: I tested it with Vista. Read below anyway.

    Well:

    default 425/364 x1600 256MB:
    3dmark05 3923
    3dmark06 1711

    Overclocked to 560/464:
    3dmark05 4777
    3dmark06 2155

It seems stable and faster than the old 7.2. How about omegas?

Go to know; I've been using Windows Vista's display driver all this time. How did you install the Catalyst 7.8, cause for me it didn't go to well.

I might give them a shot, everything since 7.2 has been horrible for my card at least.

I want to update my drivers but when I went to ATI's page to download the 7.8 drivers IBM/Lenovo was not listed as one of the manufactures that is supported. Does that matter can I go ahead and download and update them anyway? I was using 7.4 for a while then updated to 7.7 I had some issues and didn't like it at all. Then updated to lenovo's newest drivers which seem to be alright but my 3D mark05 score dropped about 200 points. I would really like some good preforming drivers to get the most out of my x1400 hopefully 7.8 can provide that if they will indeed work.

You give it a try and I'll follow. :)
Plus I got Vista, so it's a little harder for me to update.

    OK I have Vista too.

    1. Go to amd site and download the desktop radeon drivers 7.8.
    2. Go here and download DH modtool - http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/
    3. Start 7.8 driver and leave it dearchive in C:\ATI\SUPPORT\
    4. On the screen asking for install - press Cancel
    5. Start modtool and point to the folder where the driver resides
    (C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-8_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_50974)
    6. Mod it!
    7. Go to C:\ATI\SUPPORT\7-8_vista32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_50974\Driver and start setup.exe
    8. Restart after it has finished.
    9. Check if you have issues with colours: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=164477

Desktop drivers cannot be installed on notebooks. This tool fixes that. It doesn't change drivers - it just adds some info in the list of supported graphics cards. That way you don't have to wait for your manufacturer to produce drivers exactly for your notebook. (Or you still can). In my case the latest HP driver the last time I checked was 6.12 and it was so bad that I immediately put ATI default driver.

Have you tried the whole procedure and successfully modded them in order to install on notebook. Do you have Vista or XP?

Try www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst and you will end up with xp version of drivers. Here I work with Vista. But yes it is a good place for XP mobile drivers. Sorry for not mentioning that more clearly.

    I hope this helps,

    Ivan
