The new Catalyst software suit has just been published.
Although I tried to download it, the installation verification software tells that my notebook manufacturer is not supported (although the list on the site states that it's supported).
I know that the software can be downloaded directly, but has the installation verification software ever worked for anybody?
Thanks in advance!

ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst Try that.
-
It worked for me and my last notebook.
Download the desktop version and mod it with the DH modder tool.
It is simple and it works.
BTW try the new game site by amd: http://game.amd.com
People say the download rate is much better.
Cheers,
Ivan -
Xoranus, I had the same problem yesterday as I was installing it but I just had to manually install the driver itself instead of installing the catalyst.
-
Some months ago I downloaded and installed 7.3 without any problem and mod from ati.amd.com/online/mobilecatalyst. I just wanted to know whether the verification software does anything, and why is that, that the verification software tells that I'm unable to install it, while the built-in verification in the catalyst installer reports no problem.
-
I believe the only ones who knows the answer to your question are the makers of that verification software. It doesn't work for my laptop either. But worst thing IMO is that they don't officially support Mobile Catalysts for Vista. The second is that they don't officially support some of they whole mobile products, Mobility Radeon X1700 and X1900..
-
Maybe I ask a stupid question, but can this forced or modded drivers cause any hardware problems (e.g. the graphic card will overheat or something else?)

Just use these official ATI Mobility drivers and don't worry about modding anything:

Yeah, I can't install these on my laptop either (8510p). It keeps saying it doesn't recognize the driver or hardware. I forgot exactly what it said. For some reason, though, the ATI drivers from HP itself are the only things that will install correctly. Do you guys know if HP uses a different folder to put the driver in or why the ATI 7.9 driver won't install? If you want me to post the exact message I will.

ive had no problems
-
Ah, I forgot to point out that I'm using XP Pro, not Vista.

Thanks for the replies!
I have only one question left.
Can anybody give me an idea how much this can improve the overall performance especially in newer games? (Currently I use Catalyst 6.6, 3D Mark03: 3000, 3D Mark06: 1200). When I installed the 7.3 it gave 3300 in 3DMark03 and 900 in 3DMark06and I use Windows XP.
Thanks in advance! -
...and by "this" in the first line I meant installing 7.9

Unless someone has the same laptop as you I don't think anyone can tell you how much of a performance increase to expect. So try it and find out.

Hi Xoranus
I have an Acer 5672 with an ATI X1400 256/512 card on board
for the first 6 months of running the machine I always had lots of problems with ati's own drivers, especially with HalfLife2 crashing and general slow performance.
I started to experiment with 3rd party modded drivers (especially to try and get FEAR running nicely LOL) out of the lot, the ones that ran best on my machine were the Omega drivers, which have their own installer, and if I remember correctly give you the option of using the catalyst console or legacy control panel.
I am currently running a new-ish release (had to get bioshock demo going) and they are still the most stable.
Performance between drivers seems to go up and down so it can take some experimentation to find the optimum performance, but it can be worth it.
Good luck with your drivers and let us know how you get on -
Could you please write how many scores you got in 3DMark03 05 or 06?
It would be also useful for me how many frames you got in Bioshock (with resolution and quality specifications, too)
Thanks in advance! -

lol I shall have to install them again, cant remember the scores but I will try and get that done some time this week *adds thread to favourites*
as for bioshock in the end I had to lower the resolution down to 720*500 or something (yeah I know I cant remember the widescreen lower res's) but I did manage to get 25-30 frames / sec with drops to around 17
this has spurred me on to get a better machine hopefully early next year.
the quality was set between low and medium,
btwoh and the game still looks amazing at C64 resolutions LOL
-
I also tried BioShock on a 1280×1024 external monitor with the resolution 640×480 (so the ratio will be integer), and got 20-30 fps with low-medium settings. I also tried it with max. resolution with highest settings, it gave 5 fps
. To say the truth I didn't realize much difference betwwen them, except the speed.

Ok Xoranus initial test done (still need to d/l 3dmark06)
3dmark 03 at default settings (1024/768) 3375
thats on a T2300 Centrino, 2gb 667mhz Ram, 120gb 5400 Sata HDD, 256/512mb X1400 on Omega 3.8.360 driver.
soundcard is the standard Realtek High Def audio affair on the later drivers.
Will post 06 results when I get it installed -

Hi Xoranus
I only got 985 3dmark06 points on the 110 patched version
strange you got 1200, I have seen this before maybe the memory on my GPU is not as good hmmmm. -
With my result I was mistaken, I got approximately 1080-1090 in 3D Mark06 1.1.0 Basic with 1280×800 resolution, Catalyst 6.6.

When I tried the driver 7.3 I got in 3D Mark 03 3300,but in 06 ~970, so maybe I will remain by this driver.

Yeppers Xoranus
the best way to run is if it aint broke dont fix it, however bioshock wasnt forgiving there LOL
every so often something comes out that requires an update and all the experimentation begins again
I am amazed at how nicely ET Quake Wars runs on the X1400 great game to boot -
Yes
But before I reinstall XP (I do it every 4-5 months) I will try and test the 7.9 with 3DMark. -
Has anyone has any success install Catalyst Mobility 7.9 on Vista?
-
are the stock drivers that ATI gave me better than this 7.9? My stock one is 8. something.
-
The last mobility catalyst made by ATI is the 7.9. I think what you say is the "Driver Packaging Version". 7.9 is the version number of catalyst.
Actually I use Catalyst 6.6, and the driver version number is 8.261. ... -
Hmmm i think its 6.6, i bought my asus v1jp and i got it from the cd. Look on this page and you can see my problems with cs. Should i use omega drivers instead?

The Lenovo driver download page for your laptop shows date 14 Sep 2007 for that driver number, so it's pretty recent, but it's still older than the Catalys 7.8, which I have installed. Strange that they don't provide the "Catalyst version" number for the CCC Information Center. It should show up right under the "Driver Packaging Version", atleast my CCC shows it there. Maby Lenovo also makes other alterations to their ATI drivers for better compatibility and therefore leaves it out.
