    Hi,

This problem randomly started a few days ago when I turned my Dell XPS 16 1645 on. I can't think of anything I changed that would have caused the issue.

Basically my LCD, once very bright, suddenly became dim even at maximum settings.

I found that the ATI drivers / Catalyst Control Centre are the problem. Whenever the drivers are installed the screen is very dim. If I uninstall all the ATI software/drivers, my screen is bright and normal again, but of course runs at 640x480.

I've tried two different driver versions, as well as only installing the drivers and nothing else. Neither has helped.

Has anyone come across something like this before? Any help would be much appreciated!

Very strange...is your power profile effected?

Is there a CCC setting that you can adjust?

I tried modifying the power profile, but no luck. I've set my LCD to be max brightness no matter what setting I'm on, but it's still dim. As soon as I uninstall the ATI drivers, my screen returns to normal brightness.

I've looked at the CCC colour settings, and can adjust the contrast and brightness there, but I'm not able to replicate the exact brightness pre-drivers. Plus they were set to default before, and I don't know why it would suddenly change.

    Very strange indeed!

Sorry for the post spam, but resolved issue finally.

Went into CCC, options, preferences, restore factory defaults.

Somehow my colour settings must have been changed, yet they wouldn't go back to normal even after reboots/driver reinstalls. VERY strange, but at least it's fixed.
