how bad are these thing updated in the laptops that run the ati 3870 gpu's.
in 2 days i get to order a laptop and i am undecided between a dual crossfire 3870 whitebook or 9800 gtx or just a 9800 gt. i don't want to buy a laptop that is going to be a problem in updating the graphics driver on a ati but i found a sweet deal on P.M.W. site (falcon laptop).

I've got a whitebook with 3870s in crossfire, and ATI doesn't provide mobile drivers like nVidia just started to do. You have to take the normal catalyst desktop drivers from their site and use the mobility modder on them to get them to work with the 3870. There has been a long discussion about this exact thing in the OCZ section of the forum. You should definetely read through some of it before you make a decision. From what we have found out, in terms of future upgrades, the whitebook (which I think is what you are referring to) is very good but we won't see the full potential of the cards until ATI starts to provide mobile drivers.

But if there is one thing I can't stress enough, its that you should go to the OCZ section and read up on some of the posts there before you make your decision. There are a lot of whitebook owners there who would help you. In fact, here is a thread wher someone wanted is trying to decide between a whitebook and a sager 8660: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=333198

Thats one of many threads that you should check out.

    Hope I helped.
