I have seen on other websites that there are two versions of this graphics card? One supported for i7-720QM + and one for i5-420M + (Quad vs Dual). The dual core version is listed as switchable.

I know that the i7 quad cores have no integreted graphics card; however, i am replacing my laptop with a dual core and i was wondering if anyone knew if this card came with a switchable graphics option from xoticpc.com

FORCE NBLB2 (Built on Compal NBLB2)

This is the laptop in question. Thanks for looking guys.

My understanding is that the i7 notebooks that include that GPU are not switchable. My notebook's configuration is similar the graphics are not switchable.

I really don't believe the i7+5650 will be switchable. BUT... the i5 machine with the 5650 should be. Look at the new Acer Timeline X 4920TG.

I have an I5 and my 5650 is switchable. I like it.

I would email them and ask about it. While all i3/i5/i7 dual-cores have integrated graphics, the notebook needs to support switchable graphics for them to be enabled if a dedicated card is installed.
It doesn't say anything about switchable graphics support on the webpage you linked.

Also, there are not two versions of the 5650. As noted, HP has two options
That option is only selecting between different motherboards.

Unless they specify switchable graphics with the dual core options, it is unlikely that you will have that function.

Intel have moved their graphics onto the CPU, the Quad cores dont have this included so therefore can't possibly support switchable gfx. The Dual cores can if the board is designed to support it (Display connections to the CPU socket).
