I'm having real trouble finding a good notebook with a blend of portability and decent gaming capabilities.
I'm not a hard core gamer. But software like "THE SIMS 2" won't run on my laptop (Sony VAIO Z1A... with the original Mobility Radeon), so I'm seriously thinking of an upgrade.
So long as I'm upgrading, I might as well get something slightly future-proof so that I won't be left in the dust again. Is the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 too old a technology or is it something still viable?
If it's too old, what good laptops out there (and I prefer not the big gaming monsters) can give me decent performance for a game like THE SIMS 2?
Thanks everyone!

Mobility Radeon 9600 on my Asus M6 will play sims 2 granted i have 1gb of ram but i'm sure you'll manage fine with the 9700. Although it is becoming a bit dated these days as the new PCI-express cards are coming out and should be really making its way into the mainstream market in the next few months or so. If you can afford to wait and you want the latest stuff at a good price back to school time is always great for that sort of stuff!

Imo the 9700 is a grand card. Not only is it much less power thirsty than most PCI-e cards, it is still reasonably fast.
Anyone have a comparison between the TDP of the 9700 and the X600??
ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 ?
