    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 based on the hd 2900 desktop architecture, rv600 and not rv630

    Desktop Retail Name Processor Mobile Retail Name Processor
    HD 2900 R600 HD 2600 M76
    HD 2600 RV630 HD 2400 M74 / M72
    HD 2400 RV610 HD 2300 M71




    maybe i wait a month or so and buy a new laptop with a hd 2600 instead of a 8600m gt. which is better ?

    any thoughts ?

    No one knows that yet... I think their performance will be very similar... However ATI card propably will be a little less powr hungry, due to 65nm production process.

    Am I the only one reading that data as:

    Desktop Retail Name Processor
    HD 2900 R600
    HD 2600 RV630
    HD 2400 RV610

    Mobile Retail Name Processor
    HD 2600 M76
    HD 2400 M74/M72
    HD 2300 M71

    Both NVidia and ATi usually have different part numbers (processor names) for desktop and mobile GPUs. It wouldn't surprise me if M76 is based on RV630 or RV610, since those are lower power parts.

    i agree with you. they are not comparing desktop parts to laptop parts, they just have one column matching desktop parts to their processor model number, and then another column doing the same for the mobility parts.
