Cheers would there be a significant difference? As it is the difference between two laptops for me...both have 256 memory however the Nvidia 9600 has DDR3 memory.

    Thanks.

With the GDDR3 memory on the 9600 it will make it significantly better. You will notice a difference. Not a huge increase, but it will definetly make a difference. ;)

the hd3650 is better than the GS 9600m as per the sticky

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 GDDR3
    Nvidia GeForce 9600M-GS
    Nvidia GeForce 8600M-GT GDDR3
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 DDR2
    Nvidia GeForce 9600M-GT DDR2
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 GDDR3
    Nvidia GeForce 9600M-GT GDDR3
Nvidia GeForce 8700M-GT/Nvidia GeForce 9650M-GS (same card)
    Nvidia GeForce 9700M-GT

think of the 3650 as the 9600m gt, also most of the 3650's are 512mb r u sure urs is 256
    why not post the laptops

That list doesnt include the 9600M GS GDDR3 though.

    Laptops are:

    Acer Aspire 6920G

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2 GHz Dual-Core
    RAM - 3GB DDR2 SD RAM
Graphics - ATI Radeon HD 3650 512 MB (i believe it has DDR2 memory getting clarification soon)

    Samsung R560:

    Processor: Samsung R560 Core 2 Duo P7350 2 GHz
    RAM: 4 GB DDR3 SDRAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS 256 MB DDR3

My bad, the Acer has a 512 graphics memory instead of 256. Will that make a big difference? Also the Samsung's P7350 processor I've heard has less performance but more reliability due to the cooler running processor, also it has DDR3 memory. I've heard that 4GB RAM cannot be read by 32-bit windows however it runs smoother than 3GB RAM because of two 2GB RAM which apparently uses the 2 cores better. Is this true?

Let me guys know what you think is the better gaming laptop.

    Thanks

Samsung. it has a better GPU, despite the lower VRAM.

32bit OS will only recognize a max of 3.25GB. 64bit will recognise 4GB+
I dont think the 2 cores and 2GB RAM have anything to do with each other.

id take the samsung, the 9600m gs is a slower clocked gt so the 3650 ddr2 and 9600m gs ddr3 would basically the same thing, the P7350 is a bit better, and the 4gb ddr3 is def better, make sure ur getting vista 64bit on the samsung.

Acer uses DDR3 for their gfx on their notebook, so HD3650 is better than 9600M GS

Yeah an HD3650 GDDR3 is on par with a 9600M GT therefore it should be slightly better than the 9600M GS. Anyways, the difference is really minimal and probably ~5-10% at most. It'd depend on the game to really notice which is better.

Oh and the amount of VRAM in each GPU is insignificant in this case since both are 128bit bus interface GPUs and therefore cannot use more than 256mb of VRAM.

In terms of the actual machine though, I'd pick the Samsung as well. The GPUs are roughly equivalent but the rest of the machine favors the Samsung a bit.

They can still use more than 256MB reguardless of mem bus width, say with insane textures mods in FO3/OB they tend to make 512MB gfx mem look tight.

Yeah but normally when you reach that point, lots of other things also tend to go wrong as you're probably reaching the limit the poor GPU can handle >.>

I keep reading everywhere that windows 32 bit cannot use more than 3.x GB of memory, but I know this to be untrue. I currently run windows vista 32 bit home premium and it registers all 4 GB of my ram. Where you are coming into your problem with seeing less than a full 4 gigs is that windows assigns memory to be used for additional video memory, or even sound memory.

32bit might know it has 4gb, but it cannot address over 3.x gb, so the rest is useless. That is just telling you what is currently installed, not what is being utilized.

I just noticed the key when i got back.. thanks. sorry about the size. I was in a hurry to get out the door.

On the other hand I've found information on a few different websites that say what i did. Here's an article on tomsharware talking about vista and the memory available.

    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/vista-workshop,1775.html

and here on the microsoft website.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929605

anyways I didn't mean to make a big fuss and take this off topic.

    No worries
It's just be careful next time, an activation key is dangerouos to put online

As for the memory, I think that even though vista x86 can see all 4gb it still can't use it due to the limitations of 32-bit operating systems

    Not 100% sure though
