    i just bought a Sony Vaio Vpcea16fa.

it comes with i5 520m 2.4ghz (2.93 with turbo boost)
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 1gb DDR3
    4gb RAM
    Win7 64 Bit

it runs all games i play very good with relatively high Fps, but i sometimes get fps freezes, like the game freezes for 2~3 seconds, then all the frames that should've displayed in those 2~3 seconds display all at once in rapid succession, or even get smashed together into 1 frame, this happens as often as every 1 minute

my old laptop (Acer Aspie 6920g) has about 1/3 if not less of the performance capabilities of the new sony vaio, but i can run most games with same specs on both laptop, and i don't get the fps freezes on the Acer.

i seen llots of people with this problem but no solutions.

    any idea what to do?

P.S: just to clear meaningless posts, i already checked for the latest drivers for the graphics card, and the BIOS don't offer me the option to turn off Speed Step, or to tweak cpu/gpu clocks or voltages.
i was going to undervolt the laptop, but RMclock doesnt work with ix processors, and CPUgenie gave me a bsod from the first try.

What's the maker of the HDD?
(Yeah I know it doesn't sound like it's related to the problem but if it's Western Digital it is related)

ur hard drive might be dieing... to check so , download HDtune and do a health check on hard drive using software.... i don't think its a driver or overheating problem..
