And you think that kind of deficient emulation will be usable, think again.

Just a note, it's not X2600 HD only 2600 HD the X prefix was dropped by AMD.

I think all the santa rosa notebooks will have direct x 10 GPUs or the intel shared memory (it is not directx 10 right?). So 15th of may sounds about right.
Might take a while longer till drivers come out that can handle them.

    well,they renamed X1300 to X2300 earlier,so...

Intel call X3x00 reprogramable ,so in theory it must support dx10,only if drivers are made for..

I don't think it'll be like this.X2300 for example which will be used in laptops is DX9 not DX10.Not to mention the fact that there might be many Santa Rosa laptops with X1000 or GeForce 7000 GPUs.
[it seems that GMA X3000 *might* be DX10 compatible - correct me if I'm wrong)
Also C90 is an example of a non-Santa Rosa laptop that will come with a DX10 GPU.

i dont think any santa rosa laptops will use x1xxx or go7xxx graphics. The only exception might be the 17" monsters since the go8800 might take a while and the go7950 is still the fastest.
My local laptop shop said he has seen samples of both the go8600 and 2600 and that they can get me a go8600 or 2600HD laptop by late may and they have never disapointed me so far.

Do you expect the performance of the radeon 2600 to be better or worse than that of the geforce 8600M?

(I know this was asked earlier, but is there anyone who can give a more specific answer than: near the 8600M?)

On the net I found a benchmark of a geforce 8600M (Zepto) and it got "only" 4000 3dMarks in 3dMark06. Though this is an improvement (almost double the score) over the geforce 7600 go but still it does not come really close to the performance of for example a geforce 79XX go. Specifically the 3dMark05 score (6000) is a dissapointment.

So can I expect the radeon 2600 to perform better? There seems to be quite a difference in architecture between the geforce and radeon chips so I'm just wondering..

Just looking back in history I would say that they will be very similar. Somehow the mid level cards always end up about the same. Some games Nvidia is better on others ATI.

But this time the 8600GTS was really a disappointment, the little number of shaders will really make the life difficult, in that case 2600 might become 8600's doom [Of course this comment will be relevant if the mobile parts are not much different from their desktop versions]

If the reports of the GeForce Go 8600 having performance similar to the Go 7900GS are true, I don't see how it could be a disappointment, as these are performance levels never attainable in a 15" notebook before.

I don't see any relevance in the issues with the desktop 8600 part, as far as this is concerned.

    For this, i agree...
Add, it also depends on how efficient the design is. If the desktop version consume less power (like the HD2600, i forgot where i saw it, it runs directly off the pcie and doesnt have an external power source, but may have a weak spot at overclocking compared to the nvidia), the notebook ones could have a potential higher notebookwise clock... just speculations..

Both the 8600 go and the mobility 2600 HD got around 4000 on 3dmark06 being on par with the 7900 GS. But the higher end cards such as the go 8600 GT and the 2600 XT should run a little higher matching the performance of a 7800 GTX.

You have to remember these are the highest end laptop vid cards now, but soon they will be the middle end... I have heard rumors about an go 8700 GT coming out soon and I sure ati and nvidia are both working on their flagship laptop cards(8800 GTX and 2900 HD)

I think the impressive thing is being able to get those levels of performance (which previously were the domain of big 17" laptops) in 15" machines.

Just want to point something out. Actually thats not a rumor, NVIDIA website says that the high-end DX10 cards are coming this summer. ATI's website also has infomation about the whole HD series.
