I'm finding it hard to find any real info on this card. Supposedly it's due for announce/release this summer, but I can't find any predictions or anything as to exactly when, let alone the specs.
Could we pool our knowledge? Or if it's still all unknown, does anyone have any educated guesses as to the specs/performance?
I hear it's gonna have low power consumption (15-25 watt) and be small enough for 15"ers, which is why I'm interesting.

my guess is it will be a slightly underclocked 8700gt

i heard some good things about the 4x00 series of ati´s cards, and i hope the hd 4600 will be a good successor of the extremely powersaving hd2600.
some rumors say that the avivo feature for video encoding will be back for the 4xxx series. -

Anyways, the desktop 4600 series haven't been released yet. We probably won't get reliable information until those are out. -
Well i'm not sure.. its only a guess. but i still think the card is going to be 128-bit with high SP count , 64 Maybe? as ATI focus on SPs , but it will still have lower gigaFlops.

Considering the desktop counterpart isnt out yet we really have no idea. Personally I am expecting mid-range HD4600 and mid-range GTX2x0 sometime around Christmas of this year. Might be worth holding off buying a laptop until then because the current HD3000 and 9000M series aren't that good.

3850 and 3870 isnt even out. I dont think 4600 will be out soon.

Mostly forums I must admit
I found 3 mentions, one of them on here:

I just can't imagine ATI releasing mobile 3000 series cards at the same time as they release the mobile 4000 series cards. Unless they each occupy separate performance tiers, this would be counter-intuitive, causing people on NBR to avoid systems with an "older generation" of ATI GPUs.
But hey, ATI looks to be in the business of not only catching up with Nvidia, but surpassing them. They may be accelerating the release of mobile 4000 cars in order to regain a significant share of the mobile GPU market. I am sure the 3000 series cards will be very power efficient and cool, but I don't know think they will be much more powerful than an 8800m GTX. -
-
I think you have to agree with me that 25W for a mid-range GPU is not a hard guess. -
mobile HD4600 might be getting close or better as a mobile 8800GTX thats my guess
since it will use a (modified)rv770 chip which just owns ^^
-
Aww no, I didn't realise the 3850 etc. weren't out yet
I figured the the HD4600 would be a primary candidate GPU for mid/high end laptops demanding lowish power consumption ~july/August onwards..

The desktop cards have just been announced: http://blogs.zdnet.com/hardware/?p=2582
When can we expect the mobility versions and what are the likely specs? -
I think they should be skipping the top tier 3000 mobility series, there's no point in releasing them now, especially if everyone who would be interested in them would rather wait for the 4000 series. They should just spend the time and money to make the 4000 series the only relevant one.
-
It's the mid range that really needs new cards, look at the 3600 series, and the 9600 series from Nvidia, they're stale and underwhelming. There's plenty of the high end a low end but there's no bang for your watts in the market right now.
-
judging from that review YiXian's got, the desktop 4670 seems to be a modified hd 3850. So if this is true, high-end mobility 3000s are likely to be skipped.
-
Is it likely to be long before mobile versions of these chips?
The 3600 is crap..
-
It runs cooler, uses less juice, has more advanced features and performs as well. With the g84 g86 mess many PC makers are switching - better get used to AMD in your notebooks. -
I'm a mac user and still haven't heard anything official from Apple regarding those faulty chips. The current MBPs have 8600Ms.
