There's been so little news on the portable 4*** series from ATI, I keep hearing whispers that it'll be a big big jump from the current 3*** series but it's hard to figure out what people gauge will be it's ETA.

Are we talking September or later here? And will they all have a 256bit memory bus?

The 36** cards aren't that great from what I can tell and I'm in the market for the new MBP, whenever that comes out (rumor has it Aug or Sept), so I'm praying for the 4600, should be a pretty mean Crysis cruncher right?

It seems unlikely we'll see Mobility 46xx when desktop 46xx haven't been announced much less being available. And since the 48xx uses a 256-bit memory interface, I don't think the 46xx will use one. They'll probably stick with a 128-bit memory interface and use highly clocked GDDR4 or GDDR 5 to make up the difference like the 4870 does with it's 256-bit interface against the GT260's 448-bit interface.

I really wish they'd just go for a 128bit mobile card with GDDR4 or GDDR5. Most of the bandwidth issues those of us here have had with 128bit cards are due to the GDDR3 memory. GDDR5 would greatly alleviate that issue, while lowering pin count, power usage, and overall cost, provided GDDR5 production ramps up to meet demand.

256bit for the high-end, but no reason to waste space and power on the mid range when 128bit and GDDR5 would do wonders for our current GDDR3 GPUs.
