I was looking at the hp dv5000 but heard about the crappy 200m graphics card, so i moved on to an acer Aspire 5672WLMi with the ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 128 dedicated. Will this be able to handle my gaming needs? Halflife 2, souce, call of duty 2, etc.... (FPS) and more of the more intensive ones such as oblivion or FEAR? thanks

    From this thread:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=39568

It looks like it can handle some of those games at medium settings, but kinda flakes out with F.E.A.R. I don't know from firsthand experience, though.

I would think you'd need a x1600 or higher for those games, just to be safe.

Dual core is better than single core, whether it is 64-bit or not.

There are other options in your price range; the Asus S96J and the Compal HEL80 are both good choices.

Yes but i've heard the single core is better on battery life and i was planning on running 64 bit vista... full 64bit

Actually, the Core Duo is very good on battery life, it just slightly more power than the Pentium M. It is the best notebook processor out there right now, and enjoys a performance advantage over the Turion X2 judging from preliminary benchmarks.

i agree with Chazman.... 64-bit dosnt matter right now. so you should go with the Intel Core Duo...or wait for the Core 2 Duo.......but you can upgrade a regular Core Duo with the First wave of Core 2 Duos, but not the second wave (i think)

what do you mean by that? what do you mean by that? i would think all meroms would be the same and be able to work in any core duo motherboard

the Core 2 Duo's are comming in two waves. the first are going to be this year and can be used as upgrades for the original Core Duo. the Second wave is going to come next year (E1 or E2 2007) and you wont be able to use those as upgrades for the Core Duos.

atleast thats what i read in an article (i forgot where it is)
