I am about to purchase an Asus W3V or a V6V and was wondering if it could play BF2 at all, even though both have 64MB of video memory (Mobility Radeon X600) and I upgraded the memory to 1GB. In this thread, someone was using a 3.2Ghz P4 w/ a 64MB mobility radeon 9600 to play BF2@ 1024x768. Is this even possible?

    yes...

    i have a p4 3.2 GHz
    1 Gig Ram
    Mobility radeon 9600

and run on 1024x768 on low perfectly fine... it can go higher

There is a command you can type in somewhere...?..., dont know off the top of my head where. I can run it on 1280x800 widescreen res... works and looks great.. on low settings and max view distance... but gets choppy in those 64 player games that turn into spam fests (like strike on karkand) so i usually play on 1024x768 :)

    I run BF2 in the native 1440x900 32bit on my LG-LW70 (X600 64Mb).
I run all settings at low and lighting off.

I think with 1Gb or ram, it might be ok with some medium settings.

Assuming your camera transfers data via a firewire cable rather than USB, the X6000 is outfitted with a firewire port on the right side of the notebook. There are two kinds of firewire ports though and the X6000 comes with the mini one. It just means you might need an adapter if you have the other kind. Either way it should work, I can't imagine it having any difficulty with a home movie after watching how it handles games and every other task I throw at it. :D

I run it on a X700 256Mb and it works really fine for me. I just use 1024/ 768 but can handle settings on high without any problem.

Battlefield 2 doesn't work on my notebook (yet). I need to find a card that's compatible wiht my PC and I need a graphics card that will run BF2. I know the issue with the list of compatible cards but which Mobility Radeon can I get? I want the best one I can get that's compatible. I was lookin at the Mobility X800 or 9600/9700 but not sure if it'll work with my Toshiba

    I'm running:
    Toshiba Satellite A75 Notebook
Mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor 548, 3.33GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology, ATI Mobility Radeon 9000, 1GB RAM, 100GB Hard Drive, 15.4-inch WXGA TFT Display, 8X DVD+/-RW Drive

Well, if you are speaking of upgrading your video card, it is not possible. The card you have is an integrated ATi Radeon - soldered into the motherboard, and not removable.

If you want a better video card, unfortunatley you are going to have to get a new laptop.

Don't forget the X200M! Just because its an IGP doesn't mean it can't play BF2! With my zv6000, I can put the settings a medium and still have a decent frame rate.

I JUST got a brand new Dell Inspiron 9400, with an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7800 card. The "dude" assured me, prior to purchase, that it should have no issues running games like BF2. For some crazy reason, I can't even install the damned thing! The application freezes up at various points of the install, I haven't been able to get it past disk 3 :(

Someone suggested to me that certain cards/drivers cause this problem. Is that right?

I tried clicking the NVIDIA Driver button on the BF2 setup screen, but it says "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."

    ???

BF2 is only available for Windows, and since you're getting an older iBook (rather than one of the new Intel-based MacBooks which you can install Windows on), there will be no way for you to play it...... the only option you would have would be Battlefield 1942, since there was a Mac port of it.

WoW is available for OS X, but I'm honestly not sure how well you'll be able to run it. I had a 12" PowerBook G4 for a while, and frankly WoW just didn't perform all that great on it. I wouldn't expect much.

Honestly unless you are getting an amazing deal on the iBook, I'd seriously consider spending a bit more to get a MacBook. You still probably won't have much luck with BF2 (although I've heard WoW at least is somewhat playable on lower settings), but it makes more sense than getting an iBook (again, unless you are just getting an amazing deal on that iBook).

Not sure if it still matters at this point, but I've actually even been able to run BF2 fairly well on my Sony Vaio s360, which has a Mobility Radeon 9700 but only 64 megs of VRAM. I usually have to bump it down to low detail settings, but it does get the job done.

that dosen't make sense to me. The more poweful GPU's are missing such as the ATI Mobility Raedon X1800 or the nVidia GeForce 7900?! Are those the least powerful GPU's BF2 can run on?

That was posted months ago, hence why there are no newer cards present in there.

Having this thread open just increases confusion. I'm going to close it; Bif40, if you still have not found a solution to your issue(s) go ahead and create a new thread.
