Just a heads-up to let everyone know that Omega drivers have been updated by to use the latest Catalyst 6.7. You can get them at http://www.omegadrivers.net/
For those who don't know what Omega drivers are...
Official FAQ: http://www.omegadrivers.net/ati/ati_faq.php
I personally haven't installed it yet. Even when I do, I don't really plan on running any benchmarks to see if there are any performance improvements over the previous version (3.8.252). Hope other more ethusiastic gamers will do so.
cheers!
-
sweet. thanks for the post. hopefully it will improve my 3dmark score
-
i just thought about it...if you are upgrading omega drivers, do you still have to go thru uninstalling the old drivers, and all that? or can u just go ahead and run the exe if you have an older omega driver?
-
you just have to go to the control panel and uninstall the omega driver program which is setup files and whatnot. after that you just install the new ones. it's in the omega F.A.Q.s i think
-
you're right, i just couldnt find it when i wrote it. doing some before and after test...hopefully theres some improvement in these drivers
-
hopefully u care about more than just scores...hopefully it improves ur gameplay, cuz what does it matter if ur score is up by 300 points yet ur games show no improvement
-
Cool, I'll try the new ones out when I'm not buisy.

I wonder if the Omega 6.7's will allow overclocking on the X700 . .
-
yeah I think after the 6.5 omega issues I had on my x1600; I think Ill stay away. But I do want to get the new 6.7 ones installed.
-
Yeah!! New Omega's!!!!
I think it's time for some serious overclocking
-
it wont let me overclock my x300... but my stock frequency scores went up about 80 or so to ~1400. is it the ati 6.7s that don't allow overclock or the omega tweaks that would cause the problem?
-
well, im done installing and testing (after some problems), and performance is a small gain.
before the new omegas, i got 1889 (even though my highest is 1893)
after the new omegas, i got 1895.
so you decide. i did notice that the videos ran smoother even though the fps and scores didnt really show it. hopefully i can overclock with these drivers, but from what i read, it prolly wont happen -
it could've been because i was using ati tool... who knows?
-
yea, i use atittols too...and it just crashed on me.
-
The Ati Tools(not Tray tools) is the one used for OCing. With the older Omegas, I was having problems with not being able to OC. Now its time to OC!
-
make sure u have the most up to date ati tools..otherwise it will crash..here's hoping these are good..i just installed it and got rid of that CCC garbage
-
I tried it on my x1600, I think it makes known problem of background noise in X1600 gettin worse. I'll stay way from this one
-
Background Noise? Could you clarify? -
he's talking about the graininess that ppl are complaining about a lot on here..i don't think it makes it any worse or better though
-
Someone called Jaad posted in Acer forum sometimes ago.
This actually grainy color which makes the color is not "solid". Like some dirt or splash in it. You can test it with nokia test. it's well known on ASUS, Aspire, Travelmate, Macbook pro, all with X1600
But if you do not notice it then forget it. Dont try to find it or else, you'll regret it.
You can see the discussion here http://www.notebookforums.com/thread147968.html
Yes it gettin worse, because I could see it even while dark screen on booting. I return to Omega 252 now. -
Ohhh, the S96j has the same thing. Its not really that bad. Have you been able to OC though?
-
Just few more marks in 05&06, no problems with OCing or colors. I prefer Omegas so I'll probably stay with it.

anybody elses screen decide to just go to default resolution (800x600)? i left my comp on and went out to run some errands...get back and my screen was in that resolution. its almost like the drivers stopped working because it was in idle.
if it happens again, im going back to my old omega drivers -
NOSintake: When you install new drivers it does that sometimes. You should just set the screen to the correct resolution and see if it does it again. It probably won't.
I also notice the frowny face in your sig. Were you expecting massive increses from the Omega drivers? There is a limit to what hardware will do, you know. -
i still maintain that my 800 point ~60% increase in 3dmark05 pointage was good times.
it all depends on the specific model how much gain the omega drivers will give you, and how much you can overclock
-
frowny face was because i heard of people getting over 2000 with omega drivers...with no overclocking. so i was a little disappointed.
and heres a video of what i mean. i just didnt feel like messing with it, so i uninstalled them:

NOSintake, looks like you just have a problem of incorrect resolution (though a rather wierd case of it). Did you uninstall your previous drivers before installing the Omegas?
Use DriverCleaner Pro to get rid of older graphics drivers before installing any new ones.

cheers! -
yea, i uninstalled them. then i noticed that my resolution wasnt right (wasnt finding my x1400), so i did a roll back, and tried again thinking it was something i did during the install. still nothing. then i just deleted the set up files, and install the new drivers. worked, but when it comes out of idle...it looks like that.
ive never had luck with installing video drivers. and since it was such a small improvement, i dont mind that much that i went to the previous drivers -
has anyone had luck overclocking the new omegas with ati tool? or for that matter with atitraytools?
-
Yes, me. Ati Tool 0.25 beta 10 - no problem with OCing @ newest Omegas
-
i was using .24, i just downloaded the 0.25 beta 12 so we'll see how it goes.
-
isn't the most recent beta 14? I downloaded it a while back
-
whatever the newest was, i got it.
-
man, what am i doing wrong? i used .25 ati tool...and my screen turns either black and white, or the newest, brown and white. i click "find max _____" and it just freaks out the screen
-

We need a new version of ATI Tool
-
this version worth downloading??
-
i recall a fellow forum member mentioning to never use the find max button..mastha maybe?
-
Yes, that was me
This feature is useless cause in my case it found 580 for core and memory so we must do it manually. Here is a topic with my tutorial. Good luck.

Hi guys,
I have a little problem with this drivers. After installing it when I want to play a game in lower resolution, it isn't using all my screen.. When I was using standart drivers, all was OK.
Here you can see it:

And here when I'm putting 1280x800 resolution (all is ok):
http://img151.imageshack.us/my.php?image=18082006297dr2.jpg
So what I need to do in Ati control panel, or where? If you can please pick up a screenshot, because I have Russian Windows, and all there is written in Russian Language..
Sorry for my bad English and image quality (I don't have digital camera, only in my mobile phone..) -
And I notice the new drivers dont stretch non-widescreen resolutions across a screen. Finally! People in FEAR dont look fat!
-
it'd be nice if the next iteration let you choose..since its not a big deal in some games..but affects gameplay more in others aka fear
-
I'm using Catalyst 6.8 now, and in the CCC, you can set how you want it to affect aspect.
