    Hello,
I'm about to purchase a Sony Vaio FW590 and I wonder if there's any difference when it comes to performance if we compare the 1GB and 512 MB versions of the 4650?

Is it really worth it to pay an additional 50$ for the 1GB version?

    Both are GDDR3 VRAM.

    Thanks.

No difference, 512MB is more than enough for that card. Differences would show while gaming in high resolutions, like 1900x1200, but HD4650 is typically too slow for it anyway. So there will be no difference for you.

Thanks, mate for the quick reply.

Just one more question - based on performance and resolution:

How would this GPU fare at the native 1600x900 resolution of the Sony screen(the full hd resolution is a bit too much for my eyes when it comes to continual work/casual games ). I've seen the benchmarks and fps in the 4650 overview but I'm assuming it's tested at 1200x800 or so?

The HD4650 isn't especially powerful unit (and if I recall correctly Sony downclocked it a little), so it will highly depend on what you're planing to play on it. Don't expect for it to run Crysis on VeryHigh, but most of modern games should run fine on med-high settings without AA.

Nah, I don't think I would use it for Crysis or GTA4, so performance like that suits me fine.

    Cheers.
