    Hi:

I am planning to buy an HP Pavilion dv5000, but come with an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. I need to know if I can play Doom 3 with this video card. I read a lot of reviews that say "no" others "yes, but in lower resolution".

ATI release Catalyst 6.4 recently and make several fixes. Can anyone tell me if I can play Doom 3 with this laptop/video card:

    HP Pavilion dv5000
    AMD Turion 64 1.8 Ghz
    ATI Radeon Xpress 200M
    1GB Ram
    80 GB HD

I have never played Doom 3 but have the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M. There really are better choices out there than the 200M. I would recommend going to the "What Notebook Should I buy?" and filling out the FAQ. You should be able to get a recommendation of a notebook that would better serve your needs. Good luck!

Yes, you can play Doom with an Xpress 200. It will run adequately, but you'll have to have the settings turned down and you may have some low FPS in high detail portions of the game. But it is playable.

I would NOT recommend that config for gaming. Doom3 is very hungry in terms of GPU and your playing would be barely acceptable...An X600 would be minimum...X700 or newer X1600 would be good enough.
Maybe for games with Half Life based engine would be OK...or UT, but for newer games forget about 200M.
I would advice to wait a couple of weeks since the Turion X2 is coming out and so new ATI and Nvidia chipsets/gpus to match. If you need it right now go for an Acer with X1400...should be around the same price your selected HP does. HPs are way behind gaming laptops....Check this:
