I just bought an HP, that came with the 3200 but when I try to play counter strike 1.6 it performs like crap, I get ping from 400-900 when playing, I might just return the laptop and get a tower.

The ATI Radeon 3200HD is AMD's equivalent to Intel's GMA 4500MHD (although it does outperform the 4500), and is an integrated graphics solution not intended for high-quality gaming.

The ping is most likely due to network settings and not the computer's specifications.

If you're looking for gaming performance and mobility is not a concern, a tower PC would offer much better performance for the same amount of money.

Network settings? I don't know if it could be that, my other laptop runs cs1.6 without any lag.

I was referring to the settings on the new HP laptop. Are you using wired or wireless?

Any background apps running? The ping issue is most likely related to your network connection, not your computer specs.

You should try using wiredinternet and see if CS still lags. 400-900 ping = 0.4-0.9 seconds lag due to your network's latency.
CS 1.6 single player runs above 100fps for me on this integrated graphic card.

ATI hd3200 can run circles around all of intel's integrated graphic card

I tried the wire, but I still get ping of over 400.

How about try single player CS and see if the ping is still around 400. Normal ping for singel player CS should be under 2ms.

Yeah that is strange, the ATI 3200 HD can even handle TF2 on high 1280 x 800... So something odd is going on

I don't think it's the graphics anymore, I ran Fallout 3 on it, and that runs fine, it's just any multiplayer game the ping goes up.

Ping is unrelated to your graphics. Somethings up with either your network or the servers you are joining.

The 3200 is also pretty beastly as far as integrated graphics go.

Check your firewall or anti virus, they may be messing with CS.

yeah, as a very happy 3200 user, it sounds like a network driver issue or something of the sort. I have noticed that with later HP wifi drivers I get bad network lag as well, but I just assumed is was an issue with my router and the wifi n card in my tablet.... maybe you are having a similar issue.

But, yeah, your laptop should run online game fine.... just got done having a blast in a heated Battlefield:Heroes game with no lag at all. Just gotta figure out what's up with the network part of your laptop.

If your playing online games over wifi it;s like playing games on satalite, ping will be high,......so on your other laptop did you also use wifi with no problem's?

There is nothing wrong with gaming with wireless. I'm in a different room than our router and I can get great pings in lots of servers/games.

hi sorry to tack on to this thread, but seeing as you guys have a 3200 HD igp on your notebooks, I seem to be stuck with these old HP drivers. I downloaded the latest ones from AMD's website, 9.4 drivers, but after installing them, the drivers didn't seem to update.

Anyone have any way to install the newer drivers? I disabled the dumb User Access Control option in Vista.

    Hi Guys

ok not sure about the wireless, can you disable the HP stuff and just let windows take care of wireless (that always worked with xp for me)

as for the wired connection, bad gaming happens with a lot of hp kit because they default their network cards to half duplex

in your network card properties in device manager you should be able to go into the panel with all the settings, one will let you select 10mbit half duplex, 10mbit full duplex, 100mbit half, 100mbit full, and no doubt 1000mbit half and full

as most routers run on 100mbit connections, set it to full duplex on 100mbit

it may be defaulted to auto but this will select half duplex (boo!)

    give it a blast ! :)
