Anyone with first hand experience with this IGP? How does it fare for gaming? I don't care much about detail and quality, just looking to get decent frame rates on fairly new games with very low quality/res.

What's the heaviest game you've played on this IGP?

Yeah, I've pretty much read through that and the dv5z thread @ the HP forum, but I wasn't able to find what I was looking for.

In addition to my question above, though I'm not sure if this is the right place but this is the only Graphic Card forum in this site, how would it do with regards to video editing? Not much of a pro, just some school stuff.

i own it and i really like it. i've run bioshock, FEAR, Oblivion, and Microsoft Flight simulator X. They all run fluently on medium/high and sometimes maxed (Bioshock for ex.) settings and I've been using 1024*768 on all except Bioshock. It ran nicely at that resolution except during battles with more than 3 or 4 NPC's so i turned it down to 800*600. Oblivion ran really well...I forget the settings but they were turned up pretty high and FEAR ran nicely as well. You should expect between 20 and 40 fps for these depending on your settings. as far as i know, the IGP didn't sacrifice any visual quality. if you dont care about quality then it should be more than fine.

no idea with regards to video editting.

The HD3200 is the BEST performing mobile integrated graphics you will find currently. If you want maximum gaming FPS on an integrated GPU, this is your best option. I've got the desktop version and it handles Blu-Ray, WoW, FEAR, HL2, etc.

I've read that the notebook version performs very similarly with respect to it's desktop counterpart. If this is so then wow. At what settings are you running HL2?

*** wow bioshock on max settings with a IGP, guess my tablet dreams isnt over. back to topic, the hd3200 is the BEST IGP in existance, it really performs as well as the 8400m gs dedicated card which I have. it should be able to play anything including crysis at decent frames with some setting adjustments

Wow. Oblivion? Crysis? I wasn't expecting that much. But thanks for the reply. I'm getting more and more excited for my new computer to arrive. I guess I'll see for myself when it arrives. And when it does, maybe I'll try to post actual numbers.

I play UT3 at 1280x800 with details at 1 for both and it games great. I also play orange box and TF2 can be played max settings and 1280x800 res. Granted it isnt a gamer GPU but if you get a version with sideport memory it is a nice light gamer.

Actually its performs better then the 8400/2400.

for bioshock keep in mind the resolution and the fact that i ran it in DX9 mode :p

Oblivion was surprising though...i didn't check the fps but i didnt have a problem playing it.

overall its great for the money you pay. im a casual gamer so its fits my needs just fine.

ah and yes, its better than the 8400gs.

Thank you for your inputs. As I said, I'm not much into detail/quality and heavy gaming, as I know my budget doesn't fit that kind of lifestyle yet, but wow, I'm really surprised. I got used to playing shooters at around 25~40fps and that already satisfies me, unlike those who look for 60 and even saying that isn't enough.

Anyone tried Devil May Cry 4? That's the game that I'm looking at lately, since I just started playing DMC3 on my really, really old PC and it runs fine. *sig* I want to put my controller into good use. :D

dmc4 hovers between just under 30fps and 50fps on a hd2600 at 1200x800 in dx9 mode. I'd imagine if u lowered everything u could get it playable but i dont think it's a highly optimized game (just a guess though)

Stupid question, but do you actually play on the 12" or do you hook it up to an external display?

Also, if the display on my laptop is capped at 1280x1024, will hooking it up to an external display be capped at that res too, or can I go higher?

I play on the internal display which is 1280x800. Connecting to an external display does not cap your res. I could hook my tablet to my 24in and use it at 1920x1200(if the 3200 supports that resolution). But remember that driving an external monitor as well as using a higher resolution will lower game performance dramatically.

Wow. I can handle playing games at 640x480 but not on a 12", that's just too small for me.

As for external displays, not really gonna use it for gaming as I'm satisfied with a 15.4 incher for that. Just wanted to make sure I can watch my movies on a bigger screen.

Since the IGP can play at 1080p, I'd assume it supports 1920x1200.

Yes 1080p is close to 1920x1200 I will have to hook my tx2500 to my 24in lcd and see how it works.

I never go below 1280x800 resolution on my 12in.

I'd suggest cutting down the normal and specular mapping down to high or mediums. Basically try to maintain the shadows, textures, and screen resolution above all else.

Yeah it plays fine with the HD 3200. Got a Dv5z and installed it finished the game in a few days on it. I don't remember the FPS but don't expect it to play on highest res with highest settings.

Anyone here looking forward to the NEXT AMD IGP? Not the 790GX, which is just a higher clocked HD3200 (HD3300?).

OH baby, I would just LOOOVVVEEE a 4000 series based IGP. Impossible, but who else would get a jolly running some sort of integrated 4850?

HP.com goes to 2.2GHz. Personally I would trade my 2.1 for a 2.0 with vista business in a heartbeat.

Im still more then happy with my 3200, just need a fresh install of vista to maximize this tablets capabilities.

The ability to join a domain alone makes it worth it. Between that and remote work its a far better choice then home premium. But sadly Im sending my tablet in for repairs as it just died for no reason and wont boot.

I've heard that AMD is dropping the 3xxx series and will be using the 4xxx series on the next generation. It appears that there weren't enough manufacturers that wanted to play with hybrid crossfire on the PUMA platfom so they're going to the next gen chipset.

It's pretty lame no one wanted to do hybrid crossfire

But when I get my HP dv5z, I'm definitely going to hack it and try to re-enable the hybrid crossfire. It's so like HP to disable something cool like that.

As soon as I get my credit card, I'll get my dv5z with the Radeon 3450. I know it's alot more money for about ~30% better game performance, but I'm going to hack that ***** :D I am somewhat akin to the idea of getting the dv5t just so I can get the 9600GT but ulgh, I don't need to spend the extra $300 dollars.

Yeah that sig is depressing. My HP just died leaving me with just the dell, and while I love my dell I'm worried about having something go wrong with the dell and being left computer-less. I'm already suffering by only having one PC to use, I physically couldn't make money if both were down.

That aside the 3200 is a sweet IGP, and Ill be sad to see the idea of hybrid crossfire going to the wayside.

My guess is it was possibly a heat and power usage related issue, while I don't think the IGP would use too much energy, it might have been pushing the AC Adapter to it's limit. I'm pretty sure the dv5z series use the standard HP 95 Watt adapter (or is it 90?). Either way, I'm going to try and enable it, or even maybe HP might release a new driver or something that can re-enable the hybrid crossfire through the BIOS without a complete BIOS teardown.

But yeah, once I get that notebook, I'll probably invest in a simple all-in-one desktop as my redundant back up, like one of those small form factor HPs, maybe one with the desktop Radeon HD 3200 with some simple dedicated graphics like a GeForce 9300, and I've honestly thought about doing that first instead of the laptop but I'd rather have mobility. Whether or not I do that, I'll probably build another desktop I can do my gaming on at some point, maybe in a year or so, in which case I'll have double redundancy :D (Lappy, small factor PC, gaming rig).

Though I got a quick question about those with HD 3200s. How is your experience with Battlefield 2 and 2142. BF2 I'm aware should play at maximum specs but what about with AA? And how does BF2142 fare on the HD 3200? I want some idea of how the 3450 (which is ~30% better on a nominal basis) holds out especially with all graphics features enabled with AA.

Yeah even though i dont game that much the HD3450 is good enough for me but i still like to have hybrid crossfire enabled soon to unlock the full potental of the PUMA platfrom. If you do hack the BIOS show me how to do it correctly :D

I just noticed it now, but the sticker on my dv5z says that my 3200 has 512mb dedicated memory, but looking at the display settings, it only shows 256. It's not a big issue for me, but how do I get it to 512?

Also, what's the difference between Dedicated Video Memory and System Video Memory? Which one tells you how much the card has built in?

The 3200 cant use 512MB so its no worry. Dedicated is Ram used only by the GPU and system is your normal RAM being shared.

Yeah I figured that it can't use all 512 anyway. Thanks for the reply.

I also have one thing bothering me. Looking at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=258626

Well I downloaded the IGP drivers from ATI (for 3200) and when I installed it, it didn't fail at all, so I kinda skipped part of the guide. Is this normal? Well apparently, I can play all games that I threw on this IGP fairly well and I don't seem to have any problems. I know I'm not supposed to fix anything that isn't broken but meh it just bothers me.

Another thing is that I'm getting only 3.4 for my WEI (due to Aero), and I've seen one that got to 3.9 (for the same IGP) I think. While I know WEI is a bad basis for measuring performace, but .5 is a pretty big jump.
