My friend has an Alienware laptop he wants to sell me for 100 dollars. The graphics card is an ATI Radeon Mobility 9600. I want to be able to run Fallout 3 but I think there might be a problem

Sorry I cannot post the URLs to the specs for the game and the card because of forum rules, but if you google both, they should pop up easily.

The card is not on the supported chipsets list and it has too little memory (I think). I am going to buy the laptop no matter what but I want to know if I should buy a new graphics card to run Fallout 3 or if this card will run Fallout 3 by itself.

You will not handle Fallout 3's title screen with that card.

What card would run Fallout 3? What is a good cross between value and performance?

Mobility Radeon HD 3650 looks like a good card. Would this match up? It's not very expensive either.

I recommend completing the FAQ in the What Should I Buy forum so we can assist you further.

To answer your question, yes a Radeon HD 3650 will run Fallout 3 just fine.
