I've noticed that Asus s96j has the x1600 and the Thinkpad t60.

    Thinkpad calls theres.
New! ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5200 256MB PCI Express graphics (T60p)

The Asus doesn't have all that other mumbo jumbo. Are they the same card?

The ATI Mobility FireGL V5200 card in the Thinkpad is the business version of the X1600. It is not meant for gaming and therefore will not be supported by many games.
