Hi all. Been mainly a reader on these forums and have learned a great deal about notebooks etc so I finally decided I would join the crowdI recently purchased a Fujitsu 3530 w/ ATI x1400 128mb hypermemory meaning that it really is only 64mb dedicated. I am heavier gamer on my desktop so far but got this laptop because it has an awesome screen but after realizing it is only 64mb of dedicated vram I wanted to know how well I could play games on the N3530.
The laptop will really be used mainly for multimedia apps and some graphics work for my wife, but I was hoping to use it for some light gaming if I was away from home so what type of performance could I expect from this card with such low vram. I usually am FPS gamer for the most part. I still can return it at this point so I am trying to finalize my decision with some last questions.
It has a t2300 1.66ghz
80gb 5400rpm
2x512mb memory
Why couldnt Fujitsu just make the N3500 series with the 128mb vram dedicated and then it would be perfect. I don't want to go up to their N6410 as it is too big and and I still haven't heard much about the E8210 screen yet so thus I got the N3530. Are there any comparable notebooks with screens such as this one with the specs I'm looking at? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

By light gaming do you mean games that are light on the GPU, or that you won't be playing games much. People may tell you that the x1400 isn't good. However I have the 128 MB dedicated x300, and everyone says it isn't that great either. However, with a little overclocking, you will be able to get your 3DMark05 to around 2000. On my x300, I can play many games on great settings. All the following games are run at 1280 x 800 resolutoin and balanced setting for AA and AF.
Guild Wars - Highest Settings
Far Cry - Medium Setting
Command and Conquer Generals and Zero Hour - High Settings
Call of Duty 1 and United Offensive - High Setting
I get FPS of 30 for the games, which is fine for me. Every once in a while it drops a little lower, however I am quite pleased with the performance. Keep in mind you card will perform better than mine too!
Yea, there is some info on the card though. To me, if you are only gaming occasionally this isn't a bad card or notebook. It will do, especially if you have a better GPU in a desktop that is where you normally game. Hope that helps some!Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Imark!
Well I should have been more specific; by light gaming I mean that I would play occasionally but not all the time but may play games that are a little demanding on the video card. Far cry and CoD are two games I definitely play so by the looks of your reply being that you have played them on the
x300 and it wasn't bad then that might be okay for me. Yeah my concern was that the 64mb would not even give me enough to provide decent gaming at even medium settings. I just didn't want it to really be choppy frames that it became unbearable to play if you know what I mean. -
Yea, I here you. I play Far Cry with environment, texture, and water quality on high. Sometimes I also put on AF x2 or even x4! Do you have the laptop and the games, you could always just install them and try them out. I think you will be in good shape. Also though, keep into consideration how long you want the laptop to last. x1400 will play what is out now, but it may not be as good in the future. CoD and Far Cry will play for sure though on at least medium setting! Hope that helps so more!

thanks again Imark. good to know about far cry since those settings are really all I am looking to play at when I do decide to play on the laptop. Very helpful to know indeed!!

Good glad I could help. The only game I have played so far that doesn't run too well is the Black and White 2 demo. I don't know what the deal is with it, lol!
Yea, Far Cry is a gorgeous game. To put it one way, even on the x300 on medium setting, it blows anything my XBOX could do away!

Good news my Alienware m5550 is getting a new ATI X1400 super psyched about being to game again. Especially after going around in circles with Alienware tech support for a year. After my warranty I had to send it to Laptop Rescue in New Jersey, because I couldn't find anyone within 300 miles who'd work on an Alienware? I was very dissapointed in Alienware's service, they could do a little better considering they're flagship company in the computing world. Oh well at least I can get back to relaxin laterr

Just don't try with the newer games like crysis if you would like all best settings on there.
