I have an ASUS A6R notebook with an ATI Radeon Express 200m video card which takes up 128MB shared memory. 128MB shared memory (25% of total memory) is too much as I only have 512MB of RAM so I want the shared memory to be 64MB only. I asked the technicians where I bought the notebook to change the shared memory and they said that it cannot be changed (they've checked the BIOS and found out there is no option to change the shared memory there - and they said that you can only change the shared memory thru the BIOS).
Is there another way to change my video card's shared memory to 64MB?

The bios is the only place to do so, and there should be a section there for such a task. Make sure u have the latest drivers and go look again.
Or simply buy more ram, 40 bux is gonna go a long way in helping ur computer out, in more ways than u think. -

There's no way to change the amount of shared memory as stated. HyperMemory does it automatically.

I had the same problem when i bought my laptop and was limited on the amount of RAM i had to use.. It was not possibe for me to change the memory settings in the BIOS but i was able to change it in the Display settings panel.. I think this option is available to you.
Go into Control Panel--Display Properites--Advanced--Frame Buffer.. There should be an option there for you to change the amount of memory set for you gpu to use.
Chaz is right that the x200 automatically adjusts the amount of memory it uses but if you have ur memory set to allow only 32mb to be initially used by the graphics, it will not take any more unless it needs to..for instance during gameplay..
I work in a Laptop Shop and we have an A6R on display so i will check 2moro if it possible to adjust the graphics settings as i have explained to you.. -
Alright, thanks. I will try this and post the details later (as my notebook is not with me right now).
