ATI has failed to fix BFBC2 loading problems for their Mobility drivers like 3 times in a row now. They'll release a driver that supposedly has the fix, then it turns out it doesn't. Then they will release a "hotfix" that DOES fix it, but they offer no mobility version! They've done this with 10.4 and 10.5 now.

duhhh, since when ATI had any sort of driver support for any of their products!?
-
you should be glad they didn't put 4870 into the "legacy" category yet
-
10.5a hotfix released that addresses long BF2BC long load times:
ATICatalystHotfix -
SomeRandomDude Notebook Evangelist
That's for desktops only. So far, I think no mobility versions of any hotfix have been released. -
Did you not even bother to read my post?
-
Loading times...between map changes or what? Isn't that more of a hard drive thing, loading maps and stuff.
-
ATI doesn't have drivers!
Fermi will burn your house down!
oh hi there /g/ -
The maps take about a minute to load. This has long been confirmed a problem with ATI's drivers. I'm pretty sure its related to shader compiling or something as my HD doesnt really even spin that much.
As per my post, they've claimed to fix it in both the 10.4 and 10.5 releases, only to go "oops we didn't fix it" and then release a hotfix that DOES fix it, the problem is that these hotfixes are only for the desktop cards and there is no mobility version. -
I never had loading problems with 10.4 what are you talking about?
-
I'm just about to get an Alienware with ATI GPU... I don't like to read this kind of stuff..
-
they fixed it with the 5xxx series in the regular driver release, they have not successfully released a mobility driver that has fixed the problem for the 4xxx series.
-
I really wouldn't let it deter you. Both companies have had their share of missteps. I'd say poor loading times in BC2, for example, is nothing next to breaking fan control and frying a bunch of peoples' cards.
Buy based on the total package, especially in laptops. Whoever has the best driver support could change from month to month. But whoever has the best overall price/performance/build/whatever ratio probably won't. -
I posted it in case YOU wanted to use mobility modder or some such so you could play with it until they came out with the mobility version.
Funny, I was trying to help you out... feeling your pain and all. -
Mobility modder doesn't work with the 10.x drivers.
-
"Or some such"
In any event, it should have made you at least hopeful that an official mobility version is around the corner.
Curious. Why were you banned from their forum? Couldn't possibly be from merely asking questions. And deleting your threads? You must have violated some rule of theirs. -
AMD Game Forums - Bad Company 2 load times still aweful
This is the only thing I've posted anytime recently. I made another post at the bottom of that thread pointing out how the hotfix is not for mobility GPU's and how they didn't release a mobility version for 10.4a either. I also made a thread in the notebook section specifically asking about a mobility version of the hotfix. When i came back to the website today, my account was banned and that thread as well as the post in the other thread had been deleted.
There was a 10.4a hotfix that was never released for mobility GPU's. Seems likely the same will happen for the 10.5a hotfix. I'm pretty annoyed by this as it seems like ATI think's it's easier to just ignore/delete the very small portion of ATI users who would actually be bothered by this issue rather than fix it.
Also, do you have any suggestions as far as "or some such"? I have no idea how else to mod the drivers. -
Figured you might have known the various methods. Others might know who are more well versed in such matters. They'll probably chime in later as to whether or not there is.
Myself, I'm a Nvidia user. Not that there's anything wrong with ATI. But Nvidia desktop drivers have a few ways of getting them to work with mobile. Simplest of which is modding the .inf file. -
Hmm why would you need a mobility modder when there are official Mobility Drivers?

Find me a mobility version of 10.5a and you'll be my hero.
-
I'm so glad I'm not in that boat, at least not yet.
-
same here, bought bad company 2. played it only a few times because of the crap loading times. always spawn so late that first base is capped and all the vehicles are gone. 10.3/10.4 and 10.5 nice drivers but they need the damn loading fix too.
paid fair amount of money for dual ati 4870 cards to play games like bad company, not to play pong.
don't let us think we made a mistake by getting mobility cards?
it's in the drivers, fix it.
does ati fail to support there faithfull mobility users?
10.3 = slow loading
10.4 = slow loading, fix inside but no for mobility
10.5 = oh no, slow loading.
10.5a = yeah a fix, oh only desktop cards....
fix it -
I hate readind stuff like this.
Just glad my trusty "old" ATI HD 4770 desktop card loads fast when i run it in Dx9.
Wont bother updating my notebook until they release actual working drivers or else i would just waste money.
-
mailed ati for the damn fix. hate getting the finger and no support.
