EDIT: AMD went crazy on updating previews almost every day. :) People are reporting bugs being fixed and performance and stability are great!

    Check here: http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46

It is faster for me in games (around 5%-10% on avg compared to 11.2)
Videos (internet flash and HTML 5) are more fluent, but HTML5 sometimes freezes.
Most importantly: it fixed my MCE problem with Live TV.

So if you want - try it!

    Cheers.

We know about it. There's a thread too. Someone in Asus Gaming forum reported a 200% fps rise while playing BC2 although this sounds absurd to me.

I get 20% at most. :) Typo maybe.

BTW there is also RC2 of the 11.4 driver. Just in case....

Well, I was afraid, but, when I installed, I stopped being afraid. All you need is a reliable source.

You should get these drivers. They are a MUST! :)

    Make a restore point
    Install mobile version
    Test

I did just that and have no issues whatsoever. Actually these are the first drivers in ages (since summer 2010) that work with MCE and my USB DVBT card. Plus I get better framerates. Unigine test went up a bit too, but the best thing is that these drivers are stable, and everything works as supposed to do.

This is the 11.4 Catalyst Driver hotfix, right? Do you install this like a video driver or do you just DL and run the installer?

I think it is actually a preview of a full driver. I downloaded and ran it. I didn't remove the previous driver.

BTW two new previews are up. March 22 and 23! So far here is only March 22 mobility modded driver.

March 23 version (now with mobility mod)

Is this an official driver, or a fan mod? if this is a fan mod will these improvements be seen in the next official driver or should I install this? also is this a mobile driver or a full card driver? is it safe to install a desktop card driver on a mobile card?

It is a preview driver from AMD. I believe a desktop version which was modded by asder to install on a mobile radeon.

These improvements will come in the next 11.4 driver, but many people (including me) are already enjoying fixed bugs, issues and great stability and performance. They are not flawless, but much better than 11.2 for example.

MEaker, if you are upgrading from 10.2 you have to use driver sweeper first. Just use it on the ATI folder in safe mode, reboot, and install 11.4.

I had terrible performance upgrading from 10.2 to anything else.

Actually the 11.4 drivers was reported to have bad perforamance in some older titles ... maybe thats why you feel they are worse than the 10.2s ... but on newer titles they perform much better ... A personal experience for me is that they perform EXTREMELY BAD in Pro Evolution soccer 2011 ... but much better in DoWar2R & a little better in Dragon Age II ...

So if you play older titles steer clear from these drivers ... Newer titles they will be either better or on bar with older driver sets

Ah, the clocks of the GPU were severely decreased after installing. I was under the assumption that the driver itself was the problem!

It sounds like everything benifits, but I've heard from the asus board it doesn't support HDMI, can anyone confirm this? Because I have it downloaded ready to test but I plug my lappy into my flat screen and if it doesn't support HDMI yet I'll wait till official release next month.

    How do you mean?

On my 5850 clocks are 200/200 in Windows and 625/800 in games (I can overclock to 730/1050).

Do you mean it never goes to higher clocks in games?

People are joking that 11.3 will be released on April 1st as a joke because noone expects much of them since ATI showed what is capable of with 11.4 preview.

I wonder if ATI hired some new developers or optimizers now since they were struggling since 10.5 with a decent driver. 10.10 and onwards only brought problems for me (since they have introduced accelerated 2d for flash). Now all these problems suddenly dissapear and I get very nice boost and no problems whatsoever (3d or 2d, flash video, DVBT, HDMI, you name it - all works), even with the unfinished 11.4.

That'd be a pretty cruel joke, but it'd be funny if they just packed the 11.4 driver and named it 11.3 :p

AMD did in fact hire a new team (#catalystCreator), and fired the old lead guy (terry makedon / #catalystMaker) and 11.4 is their first release. 10.8 and 11.2 were the best drivers for me personally, looking forward to what this new team offers.

I might have to roll back to something earlier then 11.2, Im having huge issues with one game:transformers war for cybertron, textures aren't loading in properly, I ran Furmark for an hour today, no errors or crashing, I've tried crysis warhead dx10 and dx9, tried RE5, tried Stalkers, and l4d and they all work fine, but transformers is having some huge issue with my system.

Is there a tool to see if the GPU is fried? Wouldn't furmark pick up on an error like that?

Yes was the first route I took, I remember I moved into onto another partition in my array and figured maybe its not finding files properly, so I reinstalled and still same result, im not using a changed .exe either im running from disc and still no go, I don't remember if it did this on 11.2 or not, I haven't played it since I beat it back in like september. Im trying to rule out the gpu as the problem and furmark would find an error on the card right?

Sorry to hear it but it must be something with the driver/game combo (try some older driver like 10.5 since they introduced some hw accelerations for 2d in 10.10 and then all drivers became unstable for me). Your card is not fried if you can run furmark.

I tried Unigine, 3d mark, Kombustor, and many games (not the newest ones but like TF2, CS:S, Men of War, L4D2, F1 2010, Dirt2 etc...) and I had no issues whatsoever. I also overclocked my 5850 from 625/800 to 730/1050 and had no artifacts where with 11.2 Unigine would occassionally flash or have little dots and lines.

HD Flash 10.2 in IE9 has no issues, and with 11.2 it sometimes froze (it could be Flash version too). But I did have one freeze in HTML 5 video on youtube. I killed the browser and tried again. I also have seen no "GPU has stopped and recovered" errors and all drivers from 10.10 to 11.2 used to give me this on occassions. I didn't tweak any settings on 11.4 (no registry tweak for Event flooding, no ATI service disable) and still get good performance and stability.

Apologies if this query is on the wrong thread - my old Dell laptop 6400 / e1505 has a Geforce Go 7300 which i'm gonna swap out for an ATI Mobility X1400 card which i'm hoping is a stronger card. (Vendor says 256mb but i think 128mb of this will be shared.) Expecting nothing miraculous but hoping for 15 to 20% improvement - that would be excellent.

Anyhow on the install of the new card should I be using the v old Dell drivers less old and better omega (version?) or looking to install this new 11.4 driver?

    I play Morrowind/Oblivion/Thief3/Half Life/Deus x - am open to recommendations?
    System:
    T7400 Dual 2.16Ghz
    2GB Ram 667 Dual
    1200 x 800 native True Life wxga

Really appreciate your advice and would love to hear from people who have or had this card.

Ya its strange, I've asked a few pc gaming friend what they thought and they all feel it isn't artifacts, rather that textures aren't being loaded in properly, I've run the heaven benchmark aswell and report nothings wonky. I've got till august until my warranty dries up so Ill keep testing games.

To Gedmen, I think the best solution would be to hand the laptop off to a buddy, or a family member, or sell it for a little bit of cash, take that cash and purchase a new laptop. Its almost pointless to try and upgrade a current laptop, price for the card, to messing around with it, personally not worth it, the MX11s are nice and decently priced for what they do, will give you a boost all around in performance, not just graphics.
