I tried to update my graphics driver the other day. Went to the ATI site and carefully followed their instructions. I uninstalled the old driver as instructed, rebooted, downloaded the newer version, then went through the installation process. At the very end of the installation, I got an error message saying "Driver not found," then another that said "setup display adapter with standard VGA driver before running setup." Not sure what to do; I'm now stuck without any driver at all since I removed it. Any suggestions?

Follow the instructions in the sticky.

You've got a 9000 series card. AFAIK support for the 9000s (and all other radeon cards that don't support shader model 2 or above) was dropped with the release of catalyst 6.6 drivers.
Current ATI drivers don't support your card. The latest ones that do are the catalyst 6.5 drivers. Also, you need to use mobility modder to allow them to be used on a laptop, otherwise you'll have the problem you had above where your card's not recognised.
ATI instructions didn't work...
