simple question... I'm considering two laptops. Which will do better in the gaming realm, the radeon or the geforce, and by how much?

Personally Id take the 3450. Here is my reasoning: 3450>3200>8400. Thats right my IGP outperforms an 8400/2400 pretty easily and the 3450 will outperform my card by a good margin. Good luck.

is 3470 any better than 3450....if yes ....how much is the difference?

how about comparing 3470 to 8600gs....

will there be a performance drop and how much?

My fault didnt see GT. The 128bit memory interface bumps it up to a notch. But personally Id still take the 3450 as the difference is nominal at best and not having to worry about the thermal issues.
