I understand that it's a very strong competition and new products are launched from each side to dominate the market for a while. This poll is to see who has the bigger market share. No details required, Chazman was kind enough to cover everything about graphic cards in his whopper of a chart. Just choose the VGA that you have and quote your 3dMarK05 if available. If you have both ATI and NVIDIA, quote your favorite.

Geforce 6800 oc'ed
3DMark05 = 4987
I like both ATI and Nvidia. Both are great! Anything with power -
It's a good idea to see which is actually best. I will be buying a Vaio so I wanted to know which Graphics Card to choose..I'll be looking at peoples opinions but for now..I'd say Geforce is more powerful..
-
unlike the AMD vs Intel debate, I'm ok with either. I've got a FX5700U on my PC, had an Radeon 7500 on my old E7010 and will probably have a x1400 on my future notebook.
-
Nvidia Go 7400 (moderately overclocked)
3dMark05 - 2199 -
Great feedback guys, we're off to a good start. By next week we would have a decent amount of voters to really find out which is more popular.
Jason, nice score. I had a Dell XPS with 6800 ultra that didn't score that good. -
Well... It's a desktop card. I got around 4100 stock. Then I overclocked it by around 20%. Also overclocked my AMD 3200+ from 2ghz to 2.4. It isn't bad. Gets the job done

Well....I have the Nvidia 6800Go in my I9300.
In my desktop I have a ATI 9600...so I guess I use both -

I have an ATI...
X700 mobility 128 MB = 2605 3dmarks with overclock.
I also like nVidia, but I still think that ATI is better when it comes to notebooks.
Charlie-Peru -
GeForce Go 6600. 2519 stock, 3023 overclock.
I like nVidia and ATI about the same; I used to be a bigger fan of nVidia until my last system, whose FX 5600 was a real stinker, as was the entire FX series. -
I have an ancient nVidia GeForce 2....think it was the first mobile GPu to have dedicated RAM.
-
Laptop: ATi Radeon x700 256mb OC'd. Score: 3404
Desktop: Nvidia GeForce 6800XT 512mb AGP. Score 4032
I'm happy with either brand. They both have their ups and downs. But overall they both offer amazing performance. -
ATI X600SE
3DMark05: See my sig ^^ -
I got my 9600 Pro for my Desktop about 3 years ago, I think. It was an OK card never had any big issues, but after having my Nvidia 7800 Go in my Laptop this year I will never turn back to ATI, I just think Nvidia loooks sooo much better in side by side comparison, and Nvidia just works better with me, my next buy will be in September when I build my new gaming Desktop and I already know that I will be slamming two 7900 GTX 512's in there (SLI of course) unless anything newer from Nvidia catches my eye.

Looks like Nvidia is more popular so far.
ATI Mobility Radeon X700 256MB

I just 3DMarked a 12" LG, 1680! It has an NVIDIA 7300. Widescreen and unbeleivably small. External dvd writer and very slim.
This is the first 12" I saw that can run BF2. I want one! -
ATI X200M Supporting 128mb
3D Mark05: 285 ! Hahahahahahahahahahaha!
I only have it using 32mb at the moment as im crippled with 256ram. Getting 1 Gb ram soon that should bring the score up to 700-800..
But would you believe it plays Medal Of Honour Allied Assault, Operation Flashpoint and Alien vs Predator2 on near Max settings in its present state!!
The benchmark tests never tell the full story.
I have to agree with Hitman that ATI do make slightly better Notebook GPu's but Nvidia are in my opinion the better all round manufacturer..
Example: The Geforce 6600/7600 are in competition with their equivelent ATI X700/X1600 and in real world performance, outperform them. Many gaming/benchmark tests have been carried to compare these two mainstream cards and in the majority of tests the Nvidia's have always totally outperformed the ATI's. Especially the 6600vsX700!
Now im sure im going to have the usual guys replying to this saying that they have either seen for themselves or have heard that its the ATI's that outperform the Nvidia's in such tests..This may have happened.. but in the VAST MAJORITY of tests the Nvidia always do better. And the same goes for the high end cards..7800/1800 etc.. -
Dell E1705: Nvidia GeForce 7800 Go 256MB
3DMark05 Score: 5912 (OC'ed)
I really have no preference to the graphics cards - I like to just take the card that's most powerful in my price range at the time when I buy my notebooks. -
AMDvs.Intel, what driver did you use to overclock? i'm ordering a cooling fan so I can overclock mine, I wanna get obivion looking crazily good. I was planning on using the XtremeG mobileforce driver. haha, theyre tied at 16 vs. 16
-
ati x1600
no overclocking
3dmark05: 4514 -

Doesn't nVidia offer more frequent drivers than ATI?
-
I'm running an nVidia GeForce4 MX440 in my aging P3 desktop... no idea about 3Dmark, since I've never run Windows on this machine.
Overall preference is for nVidia, for overall stability, commitment to linux and their excellent OpenGL support. -
nVidia GeForce Go6800, moderate overclock: 4315
ATi RADEON XPRESS 200M, moderate overclock: 612 -
I think both are good.
I am still using GF2 400 or 440(forgot), and amazingly still running flight simulator 2004 on it(Med setting).
Have no experience with ATI. But according to ChazMan421's "The Mobile Graphics Card Comparison Chart", seems ATI always better. Planning to buy a laptop with ATI. -
Wow, close competition. Almost 50/50. Maybe I should of left a slot for intell, NOT ! No offense, I love intel but not so much there graphic cards.
-
ATi Mobility Radeon 200M here......Its fine for 'light' gaming minus eye-candy....I do have a couple of ATi Cards
As for nVidia , I do have a nVidia GeForce 4 MX as well. The card itself works fine. I could run all the latest games minus the eye-candy and the cool DX9 Shader thingy... -
I have owned both but I find the image quality slightly better on ATi.
-
i have both. LEMME VOTE BOTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
nVidia is the way to go!!
my go 6600 gets around 2700 3dmark05 scores on stock settings (375/600)
with an Overclock to 400/675 i get 3200 score.
with overclock to 425/700 i get around 3650.
so i say it! nViida is the way to go!!!! -
3650 on a 128mb 6600go!?!?! I want to see some screenies
-
hehe
me and my x300 have hit 1955 as seen in the sig, but i recently reformatted so im downloading 3dmark05 right now, ill get back to you on my new score -
I voted NVIDIA. Their cards rock!!! BTW I have an ATI x700.

Wow you bet... You got the best 3dmark/inch screen ratio! Joking, but thats a real nice score!
Congratulations
Charlie-Peru -
Ahahahahah 3dmark/inch screen ratio ahahahahah man, that was goood
-
I agree, great score. May you please insight us on how you overclocked it? I'm eager to test out my baby overclocked.
Thanks -
The recipe for good OC is easy :
1. for ATI cards : ATI TOOL + Omega modded drivers
2. for nVidia cards : Riva Tuner + XtremeG modded drivers (they are most stable IMO and give you highest score)
With GeForce cards is't simple : install modded drivers->reboot->install Riva Tuner.
In RT you must go to OC-ing card (there will be two bars, one for core, one for memory and you just move the slider to the position (clock) you want). Riva Tuner IMO is best program for OC cause it won't save your settings when they are too high (clocks after OC must pass the test than you can save them). After that run 3dm05&06 to check the result, pay attention on artifacts, when they appear just lower the clocks by 5MHz. That's for nVidia.
For ATI we have ATI TOOL, but in this case program will accept ALL settings you want (I could set 580/580 for my X1600 which would probably burns my card) so you must be carefull. I suggest doing something like this : first you add 10MHz to stock core/mem values ->run benches. If pass, add another 10 MHz, if not decrease values by 5Mhz. And so on. I think everybody should manage with this with no problem. -
Yea mastha212 that is just an awesome score! Makes me want a W3j! But I'm still debating over the W3j or the A8jm. It's Nvidia vs ATI. X1600 vs Go 7600.
-
A8j is power, while W3 is power...and STYLE!!!
-
Thanks mastha, im at work now. Luckily today I brought my notebook with me, can't wait till we close the door (no more customers as I work in a bank). Then I will try overclocking the way you explained it, I already have omega drivers installed.
-
Not so long, I see you're from Kuwait so it's about 3-4pm right? Must be strong
-
No, it's actually 1 pm. Couldn't wait anyway, I booted my laptop already. The driver that I have is Radeon Omega drivers v3.8.231. I could not figure out how to change the settings (580/580) or whatever. All I could find is soft mod swapper which has normal driver, force 9700 and force 9800 which neither of the last two worked, I could only use the normal driver. Any ideas?
-
Hmm I thought the time diffrence is bigger, nevermind. You must use normal driver, the rest is for modded versions of 9700 and 9800 so it won't work with your GPU.
-
OMG i was the one to tie the poll, well, its my desktop, it has got a 6600, Arround 1200 3dmark06, I know I can get more out of it by overclocking. But Its a Vanilla 6600 so ill keep it that way
-

ATI is up again... I cant wait to get a X1800 mobility.
Charlie-Peru -
i want to post a screenie but how do i do that? also i want a screenie in my review that im writing.
i know that score is impressive,,,but i had to get a cooling pad, because the GPU temperature went above 80 while running 3dmark. and the laptop fans were on high. so i clocked it back to normal...i dont want to fry my card this soon! and btw...im happy with the normal scores as it is!
Edit:
oh and sorry these clocks are wrong
i dont know why i always put the clocks wrong! at first i had 300/600 in my siggy when it was suppose to be 375/600 UGH!!! typos!
