    Hey everyone,

I just got a laptop from Dell, the Inspiron e1505 configured with the ATI X1400 mobility card. Its a great laptop, I'm loving it already.

Though I have some questions. Should I be making any preparations to the video card, like changing any settings, or downloading anything vital before trying some games I am interested in playing?

The games I am primarily trying to play is Age of Empires III, Civilization 4 and the most intensive, Medieval II: Total War.

Is there anything I should do before hand to prepare so I can have good performance?

    Thank you!

Your card can handle Age Of Empires 3 quite easily, without any tweaking. I have even played FPS like FEAR. Devil May cry etc on low to med settings on an X1400, and they run quite well. Haven't played the other two, so can't comment on them. But I believe an X1400's capable of handling most RTS games out until now.

so you don't think I have to tweak any card settings? Or download any special programs or special drivers or anything?

well yes, you should keep your video card drivers up to date. the most recent one is 7.2. so you should download and install that

You can try out ATI Tool and overclock it, but don't expect super duper improvements, and also remember not to go overboard with the clocks. Do it carefully.

You can play Medieval with the X1400, but it will have to be medium-low settings most of the way. You can improve your performance somewhat with OC.
