I understand nvidia's naming convention:
EX: 9800GTX
first number is generation
second number is power
what what about their new 2xx or 3xx? i dont understand those
----
then there is ATI
I have absoluetly no clue how their naming convention works:
4830... etc? huh?

ATI's is similar to Nvidia's older convention (except without all the GT/GTS/GTX bull-hockey).
The higher the number, the further ahead it is, the faster it is. The chain would look like this:
4890 > 4850 > 4830 > 4770 > 4670 > 4650 > 4630, and so on.
Generationally, you get:
4870 > 3870, but 3850 > 4670
It's fairly straightforward. Basically, the bigger the number for ATI, the faster it is.
Nvidia's newer convention is similar to their old one, they just dropped the last number. A 280 > 260, and so on. -
First number denotes generation
Second number denotes class (low end = 3, mid range = 5, performance = 6 and 7, Enthusiast = 8)
Last two numbers further distinguishes the performance (LE/Lower performance = 30, Standard/Pro = 50, High Performance/XT = 70, 90) -
thanks guys. thats it.
ATI's naming convention?
