Can one of my chinese friends translate this for me? I tried google translate but the main part is image and the translation is crappy anyway. Does it say anything about battery life or graphics or price?

    Thanks alot!

Basically the big thing is the processor and the graphics card. The other features are backlit keyboard(lol), the ASUS log logo has a light hmm.... HD LED backlit screen... has some specialized audio driver that supposedly improves the sound, and the material used to make the laptop lid is suppose to be ultra resistant. Also some USB 3.0 as you can probably tell... no price tag btw.

Bottom line, not that impressive aside from processor and graphics card IMHO.

+repped, thanks for the translation. Anything on which cards are going to be in there? I see the gt 630m anything higher than that mentioned? This is like the perfect machine for me if the cards are strong. BTW isnt the main things processor and gfx the most imporant anyway lawl. seems pretty thin also

The article mentioned the unit tested was just a engineering sample. It didn't mention anything about battery life.

    I do know the N56 will have the GT650M not Gt630M. :)

There is a N56VZ version, which has GT650 (but with GDDR3, which will be the bottleneck). i wanted to buy the asus N56 as well, but now i think i have jumped ship over to gigabyte's P2542G, which has GTX660M, and at the same size.

thank you +repped do u know if it will be ddr3 or 5? the guy below says ddr3

alright thanks man +repped i guess i gotta take this off the laptop consideration list :S

as for the speaker holes they look cool but might be impractical like u said with dust...maybe they have something for dust resistance or soemthing?

i have to look up that gigabyte sounds good. where did u get the info about the ddr3?

    check here:

    Google Tradutor

i remember there is another place that states DDR3, but i cant seem to find it right now

also, there are so far 2 version of N56, one is N56VM (which has GT630M, DDR3) and N56VZ (which has 650M, also DDR3). i feel its too underpowered, thats why if asus doesnt roll out models with 660M, i am for sure going with the gigabyte P2542G

under designs #4 bubble, it says seamless aluminium cover.. why would they downgrade to plastic in a refresh?

because they made it yellow :D it looks weird, but i like it. its hard to paint a metal lid yellow and expect it to stay that color for years. pretty sure the edges are aluminum, i heard one of the guy say so on youtube, while playing with it at cebit

by the way does the p2532 yellow version have plastic cover or metal? if its metal how do they make it yellow? and if its possible, then i see no reason why they couldnt make the p2542 also metal (unless they want to make it light??) i would personally prefer plastic because i need to carry it around

i also love how its going to be really easy to access the core components with the gigabyte laptop, since i like to clean out my fans every 4 month or so. With the new Asus N6, you will have to take out the keyboard and the metal plate under it to access the core components, which is a hassel compared to the older asus models

It doesn't make sense that ASUS N56 would only have the GT 630M when the N55 already has the GT 635M. I guess there will be an upgrade to GT 650M...

i think its because one of asus's G series has the 660, so if they want to market that they have to put something inferior in the N56s otherwise the G series wont sell....sad

yes you can pre-order it already, so this 17.3 inch has same CPU (3610QM) as the N56s, but with a 660M, so this means Asus will most likely not release a N56 with anything that is better than the 650 GDDR3. The price tag for the G75 is 1450, so if they put 660 in N56, there will be no incentive to buy the G75. Also it seems like the G75 specs will be exactly the same as the gigabyte 2542, but gigabyte is smaller and cheaper.

highly doubt it. if they provide that option, why would anyone want to buy their G75 series? its much bigger and heavier, and if you can get something a lot smaller with exact same specs, you will not buy the big one

:swoon: yay thank god for that...now for thta integrated camera? most higher end notebooks coming with them these days, will the gigabyte be an exception?

ok fine i dont need a backlit keyboard but most of the time i work late at night in the dark and its just coool :D (obv performance more important than these little details)

relooked at videos and yes it also got a webcam. now its in top contenders :D . Where would I buy gigabyte products? Also, since this brand isn't that well known (atleast isnt in the US) how would you rate the reliability and quality of the laptops and parts

i dont know about you, but i will be getting it from taiwan (cheaper and we can bargain there), probably in december because i might go back at that time. you could probably get it from ebay?

i read somewhere that its reasonably well built. also since it is a refresh, i have confidence that whatever mistake they made in the first version, it will be fixed and the overall design will be better

forgot to mention, i read somewhere that gigabyte stated that it will be easy to open up (to upgrade or to clean). thats certainly a bonus for me, i love to have a hatch at the back so that i can access the fan easily (like my asus f8). Also, with 2 exhausts, if you want to upgrade in the future, heat should be much less of a problem than with the asus model, which only has 1 exhaust. thats one of the reason why i am totally convinced about the p2542. Seems like with the newer asus models, you have to almost take the computer apart to clean the heat sink (like the N55)

well there are some online sellers ill look it up when it releases, when is the release date? I wanna get the laptop by June but willing to wait untill August :p

yes thats the unfortunate part, because fans needs to be cleaned every few month. in newer asus models, u have to go from the keyboard and strip it down to the mother board to access the fan and heat sink.

says late Q2? so like sometime in may? they did say a more exact date in the hands on video, so go check them again :D
