Hello NBR, my first review of something, so any tips on how to improve appreciated![]()
So, I will start off that what I have here will be updated with more.
Specs :
i7 720QM
ATI MRHD 5730
6GB RAM 1334
At the beginning, I have noticed that the 2D performance was better; the windows logo wasn't laggy and the general feel of windows was a tad smoother.
First off, the new CCC2.
In terms of easyness, it is not more easy than its predecessor. It is a little bit more complicated, but it is easy to get used to it.
It basically has the same features, only the UI was changed.
Now, to real business : display drivers. All the tests were made with an external monitor through HDMI @ 1920x1080. ( ofcourse the benchmarks won't be in that res, but games will )
At first I had some trouble installing them because they didn't want to DL, etc, but after 30 mins I managed to install.
Fired up Metro 2033, and I was only in the menu, and I already saw improvements. I had default Very High settings at native res in DX10.
10.11 - Max : 25; min : 5; avg : 12
11.1 - Max : 30; min : 9; avg : 16
Pretty nice, huh? ( Note : The avg means the FPS I have more often in a variety of scenes )
Now, to some benchmarks :
3D Mark Vantage :
10.11 - P4035
11.1 - P4087 ( GPU 3421, CPU 9821 )
3D Mark 11 :
10.11 - P1169 ( GPU 1005, CPU 4017 )
11.1 - P1210 ( GPU 1080, CPU 4050, combined test 1067 )
Amazing what optimization can do right? Now NVidia mates can't say "AMD driver suck" and such![]()
There you go! Here's a nice little review for you. Please do tell me what to improve, what I did wrong to have better reviews next time![]()
PS : I will add heaven benchnark tomorrow. And a little of crysis and Metro 2033 benchmark

In CCC, when you click on Information -> Product Summary -> Software
Does it say 10.11 under catalyst version? -
-
Mine says Catalyst 10.10. But driver 8.812-1101012 (or something like that). It's somewhat odd, especially considering I did a full uninstall and delete of all previous versions of anything Catalyst, and then installed these drivers.
Oh, and your machine is in your sig, but the specs aren't. Not everyone is familiar with what your specific sub-model of ASUS has in it, so your benchmarks don't have any context to the vast majority of people reading. -

BFBC2 11.1 Review. I normally average 112 on an empty atacama desert 32 man server. I set everything as close to the same settings I could to the 10.12 settings and played. I only average 102-103. Same clock settings, and same game settings. This driver does NOT impress me so far at all. I am half tempted to go ahead and uninstall soon. StevenX

neither camp is perfect, ati just isn't quite as good as nvidia on drivers. -
Is anyone else getting low gpu use n COD BO?
My 5870m will start off about 90% gpu usage but after a few mins it drops to 40%!!
Had the same with 10.12, might go back to 10.8 and see if that fixes it.
PS I hate ATI drivers. -
I'm trying to understand something. The average laptop screen only refresh at up to 60hz yet you have 100+fps and you complain about a 10fps drop on a single game... Or the gpu usage, did that drop in usage actually translate into a visible impact on your gaming session? I am not trying to defend the drivers here but just trying to understand how someone can call something bad on something so minimal and that is far from being a universal experience.
-
That said, I haven't seen any performance drops myself. I'd think the web would be alight with complaints if it were a common occurrence. Perhaps it's some version mismatch or something? -
Seriously though, it might just be BC2, I know my fps really takes a hit in a full game while I'm in a tank being mortared while I've got a smokescreen up. Maybe I'll try this set, I'm still on 10.8

can't install them ..thank you toshiba !!!! specific OEM drivers .....

With the 11.1 driver -->BFBC2 I got increased GPU usage. Big time.. Before I was at maybe 60 percent or so. Now always close to max. CPU is still not 100 percent.
I know it's not a huge drop and while playing on a full 32 man server I still average around 70fps with all settings HIGH-texture,detail,effects/shadows low/no AAorAF.
Before, with same settings I would average in the 80s. I look at it this way.. The higher my average FPS the more eye candy I can enable and stay above the magic 60 number.
Does that make sense...
