ehrm with the 4850 annouced why would someone want a 3850 ?

hmmm.. it is a little intriguing, since going to this website.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/kamikura/2700399873/sizes/o/
you ll see that it has the hd3870.. kind of weird when the 4800 series is on its way, but still, it ll be interesting to see benchmarks.. -
Although yeah, I figure at this point I'll just wait some more months for the mobility 4800/4600 series. Selling 3850s now just seems like too little, too late given the stellar performance of the desktop 4800s. If only ATI had shipped these a year ago... -
Bah, the way AMD/ATi are handling a golden opportunity, is almost sad. The market is welcoming a comeback of ATi, and yet, they still can't get things straight with the high-end market. It's truly a shame. ATi, get your act together! Fix things up, and deliver your products, so we can acually buy them, instead of dream of them.

the mainstream market is more of a priority than the *high end* hell of alot more consumers in mainstream. there is no act to get together, they are doing a fine job.

if they are looking at a purely profitable point of view, which they should be because they have been stomped by Nvidia until recently, they should try to gain control of the mainstream before stepping up to the plate, which they have successfully done with the dekstops.
Laptops gaming cards are the smallest market niche, there is no reason for them to hurry up with it. Biting off more then you can chew seems like skewed logic to me. -
That's not to say though that ATI handled the situation well. They definitely neglected the mobility 3850/3870 release. Development for the high-end often yields useful applications for later mainstream products. Given that ATI had the technology and already had a foot in the enthusiast market with earlier hardware, it's regrettable that they didn't shape up sooner.
